Job summary

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of methods for taking inventory and updating inventory records in a data system.

  • Interacts with customers to review par levels and receive delivery information.
  • Maintains records of materials and related activities as required.
  • Picks and stages items for shipment to vendors.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as requested.

Job description

Description of Position

Under general supervision, engages in receiving, shipping, unpacking, picking, staging, storage, verification, and monitoring of stock and non‑stock items for surgical services. Maintains a high standard of accuracy and interacts frequently with the hospital data control system and the surgery system.

Supervision

Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Materials Management.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Examines incoming shipments to verify receipt of the correct types and quantity of materials and supplies.
  • Unpacks and inspects items for damage or shortage.
  • Stores items at designated locations accurately.
  • Interacts with data control and surgery systems to identify classification of items (stock/non‑stock) and processes them according to standard operating procedures.
  • Performs par‑level counts as assigned and inputs levels to produce pick letters.
  • Interacts with customers to review par levels, as well as receive and receive delivery information.
  • Maintains records of material and supplies and related materials management activities, as required.
  • Picks and stages items for shipment to vendors.
  • Performs other job‑related tasks as requested.
Education and Work Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic knowledge of arithmetic, English, and grammar; accurate checking, posting, and counting; simple use of automated office equipment; adaptable to clerical routines.
  • Work experience of 1 to 3 years.
  • Knowledge of principles of receiving, storing, picking, staging, and shipping materials.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment, including forklifts and electric pallet movers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff to resolve problems related to warehouse/distribution functions.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures of taking inventory.
  • Ability to update and maintain inventory records on a data control system.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Regularly required to stand, sit, bend, reach, walk, and type. Occasional lifting up to 100 pounds; frequent lifting up to 50 pounds; continual lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Operates material handling equipment, including forklifts and electric pallet movers.
  • May be exposed to dust, heat, and humidity.
  • Good vision with clarity at 20 inches or less.
  • Requires verbal communication to convey information accurately, loudly, or quickly to clients or staff.
