Job summary

Virgin Galactic in Mojave, CA is seeking a Material Handler for a 6+ month contract. The role focuses on movement, storage, and protection of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods with strict attention to detail.

Responsibilities include inbound receiving, ERP documentation, inventory control, and coordination with procurement and production control to ensure on-time delivery. On-site 6:00am-2:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience in a Supply Chain environment.
• Physically able to lift up to 70 pounds and move heavy items.
• Experience with Oracle/Apriso preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Mojave, CA.

Responsibilities

• Inspect freight upon arrival, document damage, and resolve freight claims promptly.
• Inbound receiving; accurately record deliveries into the ERP system.
• Visually monitor inventory levels and alert buyers or schedulers as needed.
• Record inventory transactions to receive and issue materials.
• Operate lift trucks, pallet jacks, and move parts to locations.
• Maintain FIFO and proper material identification.
• Identify and locate all parts per procedures.
• Maintain accurate inventory; perform cycle counts and physical inventory.
• Process ERP transactions for issuing materials to cost centers.
• Verify incoming documentation and certifications.
• Ensure timely delivery of packages; resolve shipment file discrepancies.
• Collaborate with Procurement and Production Control to meet timelines.
• continuously improve shipping, receiving, kitting, and counting processes.
• Ensure on-time delivery of all kits and material components.
• Handle other assignments as required.

Job description

As a Material Handler, you will be responsible for providing logistical support for the movement, storage, control and protection of raw materials, supplies, work in process (WIP) products and finished products. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment and decision-making abilities, and the ability to multitask. Excellent customer service skills and a strong knowledge of raw materials used in the assembly/manufacturing of aerospace vehicles.

6+ month contract in Mojave, CA

Monday-Friday onsite 6:00am-2:30pm

Job Responsibilities:

• Inspect freight upon arrival, document any signs of damage, and resolve freight claims in a timely manner.
• Responsible for inbound receiving. Accurately receive all inbound deliveries into the ERP system and maintain records of all receipts in compliance with VG requirements.
• Visually monitor inventory levels and communicate low levels to buyers, schedulers, and others as necessary.
• Complete inventory transactions to receive and issue inventory as required.
• Operate lift trucks, pallet jacks, and other equipment to move parts to proper locations and load/ offload freight trucks as required.
• Assure FIFO and material identification are maintained
• Properly identify and locate all parts according to established procedures
• Maintain accurate inventory, performing cycle counting, and physical inventory of stock and assist with developing actions to correct inventory problems.
• Perform accurate transactions in ERP system for issuing materials to appropriate cost center projects & ensuring proper authorization is received for high-cost materials
• Verify all incoming documentation and applicable certifications are correct
• Responsible for the timely delivery of all packages that include stock and non-stock items. Interact with internal stakeholders to resolve errors and inconsistencies in shipment files
• Work cohesively with Procurement and Production Control personnel to ensure on-time delivery of material and products to meet customer needs
• On-going improvement of processes for shipping, receiving, kitting, and cycle counting
• Responsible for on-time delivery of all kits & material components to internal and external manufacturing locations.
• Other assignments as required

What You Bring:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required
• 2+ years’ experience in Supply Chain environment
• Experience in a high paced environment, previous materials or aerospace industries experience is preferred
• Good written/verbal communication skills, strong analytical skills
• Strong experience with material movement and computerized inventory management (Oracle/Apriso preferred)
• Familiarity working with freight delivery companies (FedEx, UPS, trucking companies, door to door expedited delivery companies, etc.).
• Physically able to unpack, pack, lift, and transport boxed items weighing up to 70 pounds
• Able to operate a manual pallet jack and move loaded skids weighing up to 200 pounds
• Able to operate a lift truck is a plus, but not a requirement - training will be provided
• Familiar with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) Apriso, Oracle is a plus
• Proper email etiquette, maintaining a professional tone, using clear and concise language, including a descriptive subject line, addressing the recipient respectfully, proofreading for errors.
• Effective organizational skills in dealing with incoming, outgoing, & customer owned products
• Able to successfully keep multiple tasks running simultaneously
• Works well with people, both internally and externally, and at all levels of the organization
