Qualifications
Applicants are evaluated against the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. - Screen‑out Element (SOE): Ability to perform the work of a Materials Examiner and Identifier (Forklift Operator) with minimal supervision (i.e., under normal guidance on assignments related to receiving, storing, and maintaining identified items).
Experience may include paid, unpaid, or volunteer work (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps). All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, is credited.
Physical Effort
Operations occur on dirt, wood, asphalt, and concrete floors. The role requires walking, standing, stooping, bending, and working in uncomfortable positions. The operator must lift and carry supplies up to 40 lbs; heavier items are moved with equipment or assistance. Moderate physical effort is also required for forklift operations.
Working Conditions
Material handling is performed indoors and outdoors—inside woodframe or concrete warehouses and outside in open docks or storage yards. Environments may be hot, cold, damp, rainy, drafty, poorly lit, dirty, dusty, or greasy. The incumbent may be exposed to cuts, bruises, broken bones, ladders, or forklift overturning. Protective clothing (hard hats, steel‑toed shoes, gloves, masks, aprons) may be required.
