Job summary

Rhode Island Department of Transportation seeks an Engineering Technician III (Materials) to support civil construction and materials testing. Under supervision, you will inspect, sample aggregates, mixes, asphalt and other materials, prepare test reports, and assist in contract quantity calculations.

Responsibilities include overseeing contractor workmanship, coordinating materials tests, reviewing plan changes, and mentoring junior technicians.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a community college or technical institute with math/engineering coursework.
• At least three years of employment as an engineering technician in a public agency or private industry.
• Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and be physically fit.
• Ability to supervise and coordinate activities of junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Oversee inspections of materials and workmanship on construction projects.
• Prepare materials test reports and assist in quantity calculations.
• Assist in reviewing plan changes and ensuring compliance with specifications.
• Coordinate materials testing and reporting with field personnel.
