Job summary

Protingent Staffing is seeking a Materials Engineer for a direct-hire opportunity in Oak Brook, IL. The role involves materials selection and qualification for advanced reactor components and collaboration with mechanical, nuclear, and manufacturing teams.

You will evaluate material properties, develop specifications, analyze test data, and ensure compliance with ASME and NRC standards. A Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s or PhD preferred. Onsite work with government contract restrictions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a materials-related engineering field.
  • Fundamentals of materials science and mechanics.
  • Experience with materials characterization techniques.
  • Experience using MATLAB, Python, or data analysis tools.
  • Ability to analyze technical data and communicate conclusions.
  • Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support materials selection and qualification activities for advanced reactor components and systems.
  • Evaluate material properties including strength, fatigue, creep, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, and thermal performance.
  • Develop material specifications, procurement requirements, and qualification plans.
  • Analyze materials test data and support interpretation of experimental results.
  • Assist with material compatibility evaluations for high-temperature nuclear environments.
  • Support vendor and supplier technical reviews related to materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Develop engineering documentation, reports, and technical presentations.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, nuclear, graphite, manufacturing, and licensing teams.
  • Support root-cause investigations and materials performance assessments.
