Job summary

Standard Nuclear is seeking a Materials Engineer to lead development, testing, and scale-up of advanced materials and manufacturing processes. You will collaborate with engineering, fuel development, manufacturing, quality, and operations to evaluate material behavior and define pathways to repeatable production.

The role requires hands-on testing, data-driven analysis, and rigorous documentation in a fast-paced environment where processes evolve.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
  • 3+ years in materials development, chemical processing, advanced manufacturing, or pilot-scale production.
  • Experience with nuclear fuels or advanced materials is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with processing equipment and test campaigns.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support development and refinement of advanced materials processing methods toward repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Plan, execute, and document development activities, including tests and material evaluations.
  • Evaluate relationships between process conditions, material behavior, product attributes, yield, and repeatability.
  • Use data and engineering judgment to recommend next steps.
  • Identify risks, limitations, and opportunities during development work.
  • Support transition of materials from development to production-capable methods.
  • Develop and optimize processing parameters for quality and yield improvements.
  • Operate processing equipment and assist with installation, startup, and troubleshooting.
  • Support process control strategies, operating windows, and acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate development learnings into production procedures.
  • Document procedures, parameters, test plans, results, and conclusions as per quality standards.
  • Prepare technical summaries and development reports for internal review.
  • Communicate findings clearly to engineering, manufacturing, quality, and leadership teams.
  • Participate in cross-functional problem-solving and process-improvement activities.
  • Maintain safety, quality, documentation, and technical rigor in all development work.
