Meta Reality Labs is seeking a Materials Engineer - Surface Finishing, Coating (SUN) - Ph.D. Intern in Sunnyvale, CA. You will help bring new surface materials to scale for consumer products while working with cutting-edge deposition techniques.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, evaluation of coatings, and collaboration with manufacturing teams to solve material challenges in high-volume environments.

Qualifications

• PhD or PhD student in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or Mechanical Engineering.
• First-principle understanding of material microstructure, interfacial interactions, and mechanical properties.
• Experience developing, testing, evaluating and specifying coatings (PVD, CVD, plating, spray).
• Work authorization in the US required during internship.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute testing/evaluation of surface materials and coatings to drive product selection.
• Identify and develop new finishing and coating solutions for RL products.
• Support high-volume production with material challenges.
