Job summary

Charter Manufacturing is seeking an Materials Lab Internship candidate for the Charter Steel division in Saukville, WI. You will gain hands-on experience analyzing steel microstructure and mechanical properties, using metallographic equipment and analysis software, while learning how processes affect performance.

The program offers a part-time schedule during the academic year and a full-time summer period, with January 2027 start and year‑round duration.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a four-year degree program in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field, Sophomore level or higher.
• Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
• Proficient in MS Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to succeed in a team environment and handle multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate and assist in maintenance of TS lab metallographic equipment.
• Document high-quality images for Technical Service Reports.
• Summarize findings to TS Lab Group via email/Teams.
• Lead evaluation of accumulations claims for Hercules and Niagara Lasalle.
• Learn microstructures and mechanical properties of steel components.
• Familiarize with effects of manufacturing processes on raw steel.
• Identify manufacturing defects in casting, hot rolling, processing, and forming.
• Use metallographic equipment, macros and microscopes, and automated analysis software.
