Job summary

Bal Seal Engineering seeks a materials engineer to develop new seal polymers and analyze materials. You will conduct material analysis using SEM, DSC, TGA, and FTIR, lead evaluation projects, and develop testing plans to meet customer needs.

You will work with cross-functional teams, report results, and ensure adherence to material specifications while collaborating with engineering and production. A Bachelor’s in Materials Science or related field is required, with 4+ years of experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Material Science or related Engineering field.
• Experience with thermoplastic polymers (PTFE, PEEK, UHMWPE) and fluoropolymers.
• Experience with metallic wire materials (Stainless Steels, Platinum, MP35N, copper alloys).
• Minimum 4 years in Material Science and Engineering.
• Strong writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Material analysis using state-of-the-art equipment (SEM, DSC, TGA, FTIR).
• Lead material evaluation and development projects and cross-functional root-cause analysis.
• Develop and execute test plans according to priorities and due dates.
• Prepare documentation verifying results of testing.
• Perform materials testing per procedures and instructions.
• Interface with Engineering to ensure material requirements are met.
• Provide technical analysis and reporting on material parameters.
• Develop new thermoplastics with filler to meet customer needs.
• Collaborate across departments to resolve technical issues.
