Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation in Savannah, GA seeks a student intern to support the Materials & Process Engineering Composites Team. You will assist with testing and material characterization of composites used in aircraft structures.

This hands-on role involves lab work, data analysis in Excel, MATLAB, and Python, and collaboration with design, manufacturing, and supplier teams. 10–16 weeks, onsite only.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher (unrounded) and must be listed on the resume.
  • Minimum duration: 10–12 weeks (summer); 10–16 weeks (spring and fall).
  • Must work onsite; this is not a remote position.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must read/write/speak English.
  • Preferred areas of study include Composite Materials, Mechanics of Materials, Aerospace Structures, Materials Characterization, Manufacturing Processes, Polymer Science, Failure Analysis, and DOE.

Job description

  • Support Gulfstream's fleet of business aircraft as part of the Materials & Process Engineering Composites Team
  • Support composite materials used in primary and secondary aircraft structures
  • Perform laboratory testing
  • Support process development and material characterization
  • Provide manufacturing support
  • Conduct engineering investigations and qualification activities
  • Evaluate composite materials through testing
  • Perform mechanical property characterization
  • Support material qualification and certification
  • Develop composite manufacturing processes
  • Conduct root cause investigations and failure analysis
  • Generate engineering documentation and technical reports
  • Support production and suppliers
  • Analyze data and interpret test results
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, Structural Analysis, Research & Development, and Operations
Requirements
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student at the time of application and actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (unrounded); must be listed on resume
  • Minimum duration: 10–12 weeks (summer); 10–16 weeks (spring and fall)
  • Must work onsite; this is not a remote position
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Typical majors: Materials Science & Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Polymer Engineering, or Composite Materials Engineering
  • Understanding of composite materials and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of engineering laboratory practices and testing methods
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Technical data analysis using Excel, MATLAB, Python, or similar tools
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and specifications
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Preferred areas of study/classes: Composite Materials, Mechanics of Materials, Aerospace Structures, Materials Characterization, Manufacturing Processes, Polymer Science, Failure Analysis, and Statistical Analysis / Design of Experiments (DOE)
