Job description

Diamond Foundry is looking for a Materials and Laser Process Engineer who will be responsible for the deployment and optimization of new and novel laser processes at Diamond Foundry, which will be used across our various facilities. You will be working cross-functionally with teams of mechanical, electrical, automation, optical, software, and system engineers to improve and deploy these technologies company-wide. Produce standard procedures & manuals and train technical staff to perform process optimization, ongoing technical support, and improve our laser and laser-associated processes.

Responsibilities
  • Optimize hardware & processes to perform novel laser processes to deliver parts that have high dimensional stability.
  • Perform daily hands-on lab experiments and make data-driven, logic-based decisions to optimize processes.
  • Lead key projects focused on equipment and automation improvements to support scalable manufacturing.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, overseeing laser and related processes while optimizing process controls and data collection to drive continuous improvement.
  • Recommend and lead hardware and software improvements to enhance parts and systems for our teams.
Requirements
  • Advanced degree in Materials Engineering or Physics (focus on materials, lasers, or optics) with 5+ years of experience in diamond, specialty glass, semiconductors, or ceramics.
  • Strong understanding of glass and optical materials, particularly infrared (IR) materials, and fracture dynamics in ceramics and diamond systems.
  • Experience with high-temperature processes, including annealing, nucleation, and kinetics of the diamond/graphite or glass/ceramic system.
  • Knowledge of fracture mechanics, specifically the behavior and cracking of ceramics such as diamonds.
  • Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. Preferred experience in laser and optical systems, glass melting and thermal characterization alignment, and surface chemistry adjustments with acids, bases, or corrosives.
