About the Opportunity:
Saratech is seeking a skilled and innovative Materials and Process Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the selection, development, and optimization of materials and manufacturing processes used in our products. This role requires a deep understanding of materials science, engineering principles, and manufacturing technologies to ensure our products meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and cost-efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Material Selection and Evaluation: Identify and select appropriate materials considering factors such as mechanical properties, durability, weight, cost, and environmental impact. Evaluate new materials and technologies to enhance product performance and reliability.
- Process Development and Optimization: Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing processes to ensure efficient, reliable, and cost-effective production. Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to integrate materials and processes into product development.
- Testing and Analysis: Conduct material testing and process validation, including stress testing, thermal analysis, and fatigue testing. Analyze test results to identify opportunities for improvement in materials or processes.
- Failure Analysis: Investigate and analyze material and process-related failures to determine root causes and implement corrective actions. Develop and implement strategies to prevent future failures.
- Process Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation for material specifications, process procedures, and testing protocols. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and internal quality controls.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain, to ensure materials and processes are aligned with project goals. Communicate technical information and project updates effectively to stakeholders.
- Research and Development: Participate in R&D projects aimed at developing new materials, improving existing materials, and creating innovative manufacturing processes. Stay current with advancements in materials science and engineering technologies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.
- 10+ years of experience in materials engineering, process engineering, or a related role in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of material properties (metals, polymers, ceramics, composites) and manufacturing processes (casting, forging, machining, etc.).
- Experience with testing and analysis tools (e.g., tensile testers, microscopes, thermal analysis equipment).
- Proficiency in CAD software and simulation tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to perform root cause analysis.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to materials and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with sustainability initiatives in materials and processes is a plus.
