The Butler Weldments Corporation, a long-standing manufacturing partner in metal fabrication, seeks a Material Prep Technician to assist in preparing materials and parts for the production department.

You will read orders and drawings, gather and check materials, and operate a range of tooling and processing machines to ensure timely, quality prep for subsequent production steps. This role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Use hand tools (hammer, pliers, screwdriver, wrench, drill, grinder).
  • Use measuring equipment to verify part dimensions.
  • Set up and operate CNC plasma/oxyfuel, press brake, rolling machine, and saw.
  • Mark identification on materials and parts.
  • Organize parts for the next process.
  • Operate material handling equipment.
  • Maintain speed and quality of workmanship across prep activities.
  • Keep work area, equipment, and supplies neat and orderly.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and improve processes with the team.
  • Learn from teammates and develop skills.
  • Wear PPE as required.
  • Support safety, quality, and production goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Description

The Material Prep Technician performs a variety of tasks and functions to assist in preparing materials and parts for the production department.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Promote and adhere to the Company Core Values and Behavior Code.
  • Read and understand orders and drawings and utilize knowledge of materials, equipment and procedures to prepare materials and parts for further production.
  • Locate and gather materials and supplies needed to check materials for accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand tools such as a hammer, pliers, screwdriver, wrench, drill and grinder.
  • Ability to use measuring equipment to check accuracy of cut parts.
  • Capable of setting up and operating one or more processing machines including a CNC plasma / oxyfuel burning machine, press brake, rolling machine and saw.
  • Mark identification on material and work pieces.
  • Organize parts and prepare them for the next process.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment.
  • Responsible for achieving good speed of execution while maintaining quality workmanship in a wide range of material prep activities.
  • Maintain work area, equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Demonstrate and promote teamwork and cooperation with team members at all levels in the organization to solve problems and improve processes.
  • Continually learn from team members and strive to develop personal and professional skills.
  • Required to wear appropriate PPE as required by job duties.
  • Promote company goals with a focus on Safety, Quality, and Production.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2+ years related manufacturing experience.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

This full-time position operates in a production environment. Physical effort consists of frequent handling of light to average weight tools or materials, some handling of heavy weights, some pulling, pushing. The employee must be able to lift and move items up to 50 pounds. Work performed requires constant alertness and activity, good eye/hand coordination and concentrated mental and visual attention.
