Job summary

Butler Weldments is seeking a Finishing - General Laborer to perform finishing tasks and material-handling to prep fabricated steel components for shipment. You will operate blasting, tape parts, build crates, and assist with painting or touch-ups as qualified.

The ideal candidate values quality workmanship, can read a tape measure, and is comfortable using hand and power tools in a safe shop environment. Prior painting experience is a plus, with a focus on teamwork and safety procedures.

Description

The Finishing - General Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of finishing and material-handling tasks to prepare fabricated steel components for shipment and final delivery. This position will perform blasting, taping, crate building, and other general finishing duties while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work area.

The ideal candidate is dependable, takes pride in quality workmanship, is comfortable using hand and power tools, and can accurately use measuring tools such as a tape measure. Previous painting experience is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Promote and adhere to the Core Values and Behavior Code.
  • Perform abrasive blasting and surface preparation of steel components as directed.
  • Tape and mask parts and surfaces in preparation for painting or other finishing processes.
  • Build wooden crates, shipping containers, pallets, and other packaging materials.
  • Measure, cut, assemble, and secure materials using hand and power tools.
  • Safely operate saws, drills, impact tools, grinders, and other shop equipment as required.
  • Accurately use a tape measure and other basic measuring tools.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, moving, and positioning materials and finished components.
  • Perform basic grinding, cleaning, deburring, and other finishing activities as needed.
  • Assist with painting or touch-up activities when qualified.
  • Inspect finished work for obvious defects and notify the supervisor of any quality concerns.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and work instructions.
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:

Education/Experience:

  • Highschool diploma or GED preferred
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Reliable and dependable attendance.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Experience using common hand and power tools.
  • Ability to safely operate saws and other shop equipment.
  • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing/fabrication environment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials as required by the position.
  • Ability to work safely while wearing required personal protective equipment.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and work in various positions.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to [XX] pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to work in areas where exposure to dust, noise, fumes, and outdoor or varying temperatures may occur.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, respirators, and other protective equipment as applicable.
