Job summary

Harbor Steel in Lexington, KY is seeking a dependable Material Loader to join our logistics team. You will prepare customer orders for shipment, load steel and other materials onto trucks, and verify items are correctly pulled and tagged to ensure on-time delivery.

We value safety, accuracy, and teamwork. Responsibilities include operating cranes and forklifts when certified, measuring with tape measures, micrometers, and calipers, and following established procedures in a fast-paced warehouse

Qualifications

• Be dependable, safety-minded and detail-oriented.
• Able to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
• Experience with steel or metal products preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and operate cranes/forklifts if certified or trainable.

Responsibilities

• Load steel and materials onto trucks in the correct route-specific order.
• Follow established pulling and staging procedures.
• Verify material is pulled and tagged correctly.
• Ensure bills of lading are completed accurately.
• Operate cranes and forklifts safely and efficiently.
• Use measuring tools such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers.
• Follow written instructions and safety procedures.
• Assist with other warehouse duties as needed.
• Work as part of a team to keep material moving safely and efficiently.

What You'll Do

As a Material Loader, you’ll play a critical role in making sure our customers receive the right material, properly loaded, and ready to arrive on time. You’ll work closely with our warehouse and production teams to safely and accurately prepare customer orders for shipment. Your responsibilities will include:

• Loading steel and other materials onto trucks in the correct route-specific order
• Following established pulling and staging procedures
• Verifying that material has been pulled and tagged correctly
• Ensuring bills of lading are completed accurately
• Operating cranes and forklifts safely and efficiently
• Using measuring tools such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers
• Following written instructions and established safety procedures
• Assisting with other warehouse functions as needed
• Working as part of a team to keep material moving safely and efficiently

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse environment. Qualifications include:

• Knowledge of steel or metal products preferred
• Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds
• Current certification or ability to become certified to operate cranes and forklifts
• Ability to use a tape measure, micrometers, and calipers
• Ability to read and follow written instructions
• Ability to perform a variety of warehouse duties
• High school diploma, relevant training, or equivalent experience
