Job summary

Nucor Corporation in Glasgow, KY, is hiring for a yard associate supporting our River Metals Recycling division. The role emphasizes safety, customer service, and efficient material handling in an outdoor industrial setting.

  • Follow company and OSHA safety procedures and participate in safety programs.
  • Direct customers to unload materials and control traffic patterns in the yard.
  • Inspect materials for non-acceptable items and ensure proper handling of hazardous items.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and management to maintain good relations.
  • Operate small equipment such as a forklift or skid steer to move materials.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and be willing to cross-train in other positions.

Basic Job Functions:
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Attend safety meetings and participate in safety programs.
  • Control traffic patterns in yard and direct customers to proper location to unload materials.
  • Inspect materials for non-acceptable items (i.e. propane tanks, PCP\u2019s, batteries, flammable liquids, nonmetallic items, etc.), radioactive, hazardous and/or leaded material.
  • Ability to communicate well with all levels of customers and management. Ensure good customer relations by acting in a courteous, safe and professional manner.
  • Ensure that any non-acceptable materials are not left on MRS property.
  • Remove and properly store any items or materials not allowed that may have been left without being detected previously.
  • Use small equipment such as a forklift or skid steer to push materials.
  • Understand environmental policies and maintain a clean work environment as it pertains to our policies and procedures.
  • Willing to cross-train in other positions and assist other employees as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, non-stop environment while providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs and occasionally lift/carry/push/pull 10-25lbs.
  • Ability to work standing or walking for up to 10 hours per day.
  • Ability to work in extreme heat/cold and be exposed to weather.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes of priority and complete job tasks safely and effectively without constant supervision.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Flexible to work overtime, off-hours, weekends, and holidays in an industrial environment which includes being outdoors in all weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1-year previous general labor in heavy manufacturing environments, preferably in the scrap metal or construction industries.
  • Experience with Skid Loader/Skid Steer/Forklift preferred.
