Job summary

Nucor is offering a Process Engineer Intern position in the Material Handling area for Summer 2027. The role supports engineering activities across shipping, material processing, contractor oversight, and continuous improvement.

You will gain hands-on experience and contribute to standard work development and process documentation. Minimum qualifications include ongoing bachelor’s study in engineering, plus strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Process, or Chemical Engineering.
• Rising junior or senior standing.
• Proficient in MS Office.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Willingness to work around shipping and material processing areas.

Responsibilities

• Support process engineering in material handling, shipping, and processing workflows.
• Identify, scope, and document process improvement opportunities.
• Coordinate and oversee contractors performing material handling work.
• Collect and analyze data to identify bottlenecks, safety risks, or efficiencies.
• Develop standard work, process docs, and continuous improvement recommendations.
• Collaborate with logistics, operations, maintenance, and contractor teams.
• Support continuous improvement of material handling related processes.
