Job summary

Powertrain Industries, Inc. in Virginia Beach is seeking a Material Handler to move and organize materials in our warehouse, supporting logistics for timely delivery and storage.

You will operate forklifts, replenish inventory on racks, document movements, inspect materials for quality, and cooperate with receiving clerks to ensure accurate placement and efficient workflow. Physical work includes lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret order sheets, labels, and instructions.
• Basic math for inventory counts and verification.
• Proficient with handheld scanners and WMS.
• Strong communication and ability to work in a team.
• Minimum 1 year forklift operation experience.
• Commitment to warehouse safety practices and procedures.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
• Stand/walk and perform repetitive tasks in a warm warehouse.

Responsibilities

The Material Handler safely and efficiently moves and organizes materials in a warehouse, supporting logistics operations for timely delivery and storage.

Primary Duties

• Safely operate forklifts to load and unload trucks and trailers, ensuring efficient handling of materials.
• Replenish and move products on pallet racks to maintain organized and accessible inventory.
• Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records by documenting movements and storage locations.
• Inspect incoming and outgoing materials to ensure they meet quality standards and report any discrepancies.
• Collaborate with receiving clerks and order pickers to ensure timely and accurate placement of materials in their designated locations within the warehouse, facilitating efficient workflow and inventory organization.
• Perform routine maintenance checks on material handling equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and racks, and promptly report any issues to the maintenance staff for timely resolution.
• Other duties as assigned

• Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
• Proficiency (minimum 1 year experience) in safely operating forklifts and other material handling equipment.
• Knowledge of and commitment to warehouse safety practices and procedures.
• Physical Requirement: Must be able to properly lift, pack, stack and wrap up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and use hands to touch, grasp, handle and feel items. Noise level is usually moderate. Warehouse temperature may reach up to 90 degrees during the Summer months.
  

Education / Experience

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Forklift Operator certification and/or experience preferred; Dorman will offer training and re-certify.
