Job summary

JIREH METAL PRODUCTS in Grandville, MI seeks a Production Material Handler to safely move, stage, and deliver raw materials, components, dies, and finished goods across the facility while supporting stamping and fabrication operations.

You will maintain accurate labeling and paperwork, load and unload trucks, and keep material areas organized and safe; forklift experience and certification preferred, with attention to detail and the ability to work independently in a team-focused environment.

Job Description: Production Material Handler

Location: Grandville, MI
Reports To: Production Manager
Interfaces With: Production, Stamping, Fabrication/Welding, Scheduling, Material Handling, Shipping/Receiving

Role Purpose
  • Safely move, stage, and deliver raw materials, components, packaging, dies, finished goods, and other production materials throughout the facility
  • Support stamping and fabrication/welding operations by ensuring required materials, components, and packaging are in the right place at the right time
  • Maintain accurate material identification, required paperwork, and organized raw material, finished goods, and packaging areas
  • Support efficient production flow by responding to material needs, loading and unloading trucks, and completing assigned work safely and on time
Core Accountabilities
Safety and Equipment Operation
  • Complete required daily fork truck inspections and safely operate fork trucks and other material-handling equipment
  • Safely move large and heavy materials, including steel coils and dies, using appropriate equipment and procedures
  • Follow proper procedures when loading, unloading, and moving materials throughout the facility
  • Identify and promptly report equipment concerns, unsafe conditions, damaged material, labeling issues, and other material-handling concerns
  • Obtain and maintain required fork truck certification
Material Staging and Production Support
  • Review the production schedule and stage raw materials, components, packaging, and dies for scheduled work
  • Deliver materials to press room and welding teams as needed to keep production running and minimize material-related downtime
  • Respond to daily production needs and support the safe and efficient movement of materials throughout the plant
  • Ensure assigned material-handling work is completed before the end of the shift
Material Identification and Organization
  • Verify materials are labeled correctly and required paperwork is complete before moving or staging items
  • Maintain organized raw material, finished goods, and packaging areas
  • Help ensure materials, components, and packaging are staged and stored in the correct locations to support production requirements
Shipping, Receiving, and Facility Support
  • Load and unload trucks using proper procedures
  • Empty scrap hoppers and maintain clean work areas
  • Support general material-handling and housekeeping activities as needed to keep production areas safe and organized
Education And Experience
  • Fork truck experience preferred
  • Fork truck license or certification preferred, or ability to obtain required certification
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Dependable and able to work independently
  • Team-oriented and responsive to production needs
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safely handle large and heavy materials using appropriate material-handling equipment
  • Ability to safely operate fork trucks and other material-handling equipment throughout the workday
  • Ability to work 8-10 hour shifts in a manufacturing environment
Travel Requirements
  • Minimal travel required for this position
Language Requirements
  • Must be able to read and write in English
Personal Protective Equipment
  • Safety glasses and hearing protection are required in all manufacturing areas
  • Additional PPE must be worn as required by the task or work area
Work Environment
  • Manufacturing environment with continuous noise and moving equipment
  • Exposure to dust, grease, moisture, fumes, strong odors, chemicals, heated tanks, and varying temperatures
  • Potential exposure to cuts, burns, and other manufacturing hazards requiring strict adherence to safety procedures
  • Intermittent exposure to outdoor weather conditions
Key Performance Indicators
  • Safe operation of fork trucks and other material-handling equipment
  • Timely staging and delivery of raw materials, components, packaging, and dies to support production schedules and minimize material-related downtime
  • Accuracy of material labels and required paperwork before materials are moved or staged
  • Organization of raw material, finished goods, and packaging areas
  • Safe and timely loading and unloading of trucks
  • Responsiveness to press room and welding production needs
  • Completion of assigned work before the end of the shift
  • Work area cleanliness and timely emptying of scrap hoppers
  • Maintenance of required fork truck certification
