Job summary

Avantor is seeking a driven Material Handler for its West Henrietta, NY site. The role involves packing, picking, and processing materials in the Preserved Materials Department under supervision. You will operate forklifts and related equipment, adhering to safety standards and procedures.

The position is full-time, Monday–Friday, with potential overtime and weekend work as required. You will support inbound, picking, outbound, and inventory processes while maintaining equipment and stock

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Experience in material handling or related roles is preferred.
• Must be able to operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts).
• Must be comfortable working with animal carcasses or parts.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to follow directions with emphasis on safety is essential.
• Must be able to shift priorities easily.
• Familiarity with warehouse systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Inbound: move pallets, drums, and containers to storage locations.
• Notify supervision of discrepancies and quality issues.
• Order Picking: verify product number, quantity, and lot/serial details using RF scanning.
• Transport orders with pallet jacks or powered equipment to appropriate locations.
• Label, stencil, tag, wrap, and palletize as required.
• Outbound: confirm orders match quantities and labeling; assign signatures as needed.
• Move products and cartons to processing areas.
• Equipment: maintain and operate equipment safely per OSHA standards.
• Inventory: keep records, assist in cycles and counts, rotate stock.
• Other duties: assemble orders and operate packaging equipment.

Job description

The Opportunity

Avantor is looking for a Material Handler to package, pick and process materials within the Preserved Materials Department under the direction of a supervisor, senior technicians and team lead. The Material Handler safely operates appropriate equipment (forklifts, hoists, crane, etc.) required to move materials along production floor and follows all safety rules and practices.

This is a full-time position based out of our West Henrietta, NY location.

Work Schedule

Mon-Friday, 6am-2:30pm with OT and weekends as needed.

How you will thrive and create an impact

Inbound:

• Move pallets, drums, and containers safely to storage locations to be efficiently stacked as inventory.
• Notify supervision of discrepancies and quality issues.

Order Picking:

• Ensure that the correct product number, quantity and type (lot, batch, serial number) of product are picked using RF scanning units.
• Transport orders to appropriate locations or delivery platforms with material handling equipment such as but not limited to powered lifts, powered jacks or manual pallet jacks.
• Materials handlers must be able to label, stencil, tag, mark orders, band, bundle, wrap, over-pack, and palletize as required.

Outbound:

• Compare quantity and labeling of orders to ensure out-going shipments are complete and correct.
• Assign signature for outbound as necessary.
• Efficiently move product, cartons and or pallets into appropriate areas for processing by other departments.

Equipment:

• Maintain equipment in a neat, clean and orderly fashion.
• Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
• Comply with company standards and OSHA requirements.

Inventory:

• Keep accurate records and reports.
• Assist in physical inventories and cycle counts.
• Ensure proper stock rotation.
• May key inventory adjustments in computer.

Other Duties:

• Assemble orders according to description using appropriate packaging material.
• Operate vacuum sealers and other packaging equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What we're looking for

Education

• High School education or GED.

Experience

• Material handling or related experience.
• Experience operating material handling equipment (i.e. forklifts).

Additional Qualifications

Associates use both hands for repetitive actions such as grasping and manipulating as well as both feet for repetitive movement operating foots controls. Specific vision abilities required.

Pay Transparency

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is $39,500.00 - $63,250.00. Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
