Job summary

Avantor is seeking a Material Handler to package, pick and process materials in the Preserved Materials Department at the West Henrietta, NY location. The role operates forklifts and other equipment, following safety rules and procedures, with a 6am-2:30pm, Mon-Fri schedule and OT as needed.

Responsibilities include inbound and outbound handling, RF-supported order picking, labeling, inventory records and occasional packaging.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED required.
  • Material handling experience and operation of material handling equipment.
  • OSHA forklift and HAZMAT certification a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Safety-focused with the ability to follow directions.
  • Familiarity with warehouse systems.

Responsibilities

  • Move pallets, drums, and containers to storage locations.
  • Pick orders using RF scanning to ensure correct product and lot numbers.
  • Transport orders with material handling equipment.
  • Label, tag, wrap, and palletize as required.
  • Confirm outbound shipments and record signatures.
  • Maintain and clean equipment; comply with OSHA.
  • Assist in inventories and cycle counts.
  • Assemble orders with appropriate packaging.

Job description

The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for a Material Handler to package, pick and process materials within the Preserved Materials Department under the direction of a supervisor, senior technicians and team lead. The Material Handler safely operates appropriate equipment (forklifts, hoists, crane, etc.) required to move materials along production floor and follows all safety rules and practices.

This is a full-time position based out of our West Henrietta, NY location.

Work Schedule: Mon-Friday, 6am-2:30pm with OT and weekends as needed.

How you will thrive and create an impact:
  • Inbound: Move pallets, drums, and containers safely to storage locations to be efficiently stacked as inventory. Notify supervision of discrepancies and quality issues.
  • Order Picking: Ensure that the correct product number, quantity and type (lot, batch, serial number) of product are picked using RF scanning units. Transport orders to appropriate locations or delivery platforms with material handling equipment such as but not limited to powered lifts, powered jacks or manual pallet jacks. Materials handlers must be able to label, stencil, tag, mark orders, band, bundle, wrap, over-pack, and palletize as required.
  • Outbound: Compare quantity and labeling of orders to ensure out-going shipments are complete and correct. Assign signature for outbound as necessary. Efficiently move product, cartons and or pallets into appropriate areas for processing by other departments.
  • Equipment: Maintain equipment in a neat, clean and orderly fashion. Operate equipment safely and efficiently. Comply with company standards and OSHA requirements.
  • Inventory : Keep accurate records and reports. Assist in physical inventories and cycle counts. Ensure proper stock rotation. May key inventory adjustments in computer.
  • Other Duties: Assemble orders according to description using appropriate packaging material. Operate vacuum sealers and other packaging equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What we’re looking for:
Education:
  • High School education or GED.
Experience:
  • Material handling or related experience.
  • Experience operating material handling equipment (i.e. forklifts).
Certification/s:
  • OSHA Forklift and HAZMAT certification a plus.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Must be comfortable working with animal carcasses or parts.
  • Must be able to use proper techniques to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to follow directions with emphasis on safety is extremely important.
  • Must be able to shift priorities easily.
  • Familiarity with warehouse systems.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is exposed to an industrial warehouse environment. The associate works near moving mechanical machinery and noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The job requires working in heights, exposure to changes in temperature, driving equipment, and maybe exposed to dust, fumes, or gases.

The associate is required to stand and walk for the majority of the working day. The physical requirements of the job are for associates to talk, hear, bend/stoop, squat, crawl, climb height, reach above shoulder height, crouch, kneel, balance, and push/pull. Furthermore, the job requires associates to lift/carry/push or pull up to 75 pounds with or without assistance. Associates use both hands for repetitive actions such as grasping and manipulating as well as both feet for repetitive movement operating foots controls. Specific vision abilities required.
