Job summary

Avantor in Batavia, IL is seeking a Materials Handler to move parts and materials between production areas, prepare schedules for pulling and delivering materials, and operate forklifts and related equipment on the 6:00 am–2:30 pm CST shift. Qualifications

  • OSHA forklift and HAZMAT certs are a plus; Crown forklift experience preferred; reach truck experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Inbound: unload shipments, count products, compare with manifest, report shortages or damages, sign inbound when needed.
  • Order Picking: verify product number, quantity and lot/serial data; transport orders to shipping locations with equipment.
  • Outbound: ensure correct quantity/labels; move products to trailers or containers.
  • Equipment: maintain and operate equipment safely; comply with OSHA requirements.
  • Inventory: keep accurate records; assist in cycle counts; stock rotation.
  • Other Duties: repack or rebox per instructions; operate shrink-wrap; battery charging; clean facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Opportunity

Our team in Batavia is looking for an exceptional person to join their warehouse team as a Material Handler! In this role, warehouse material handlers are responsible for moving parts and materials between production areas by lifting or otherwise moving raw materials and parts. Prepares and coordinates schedules for pulling and delivering materials to control the flow of goods and regulate production floor space. Safely operates appropriate equipment (forklifts, hoists, cranes, etc.) required to move materials along the production floor. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 am – 2:30 pm CST. Occasional overtime is required. Pay is $20 per hour.

What We're Looking For
  • Education: High School completion or equivalent (GED)
  • Experience: OSHA forklift and HAZMAT certification are a plus, as is a minimum of one year of Crown forklift experience. Experience with a reach truck is also a plus.

  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), preferred.
  • Crown Reach Truck forklift preferred.
How You Will Thrive And Create An Impact
  • Inbound: Unload trucks, trailers, and freight containers; count products; and compare products to the manifest to check all shipments for damage, infestation, or production code dates. Material handlers must report shortages, damages, and misshipments on the appropriate forms. They must also be able to sign for inbound shipments when necessary. All inbound shipments are moved safely to storage locations to be efficiently stacked as store merchandise.
  • Order Picking: Ensure that the correct product number, quantity, and type (lot, batch, serial number) are picked. Transport orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms using material handling equipment, such as forklifts, cherry pickers, or pallet jacks. Materials handlers must be able to label, stencil, tag, mark orders, band, bundle, wrap, overpack, and palletize as required.
  • Outbound: Compare quantity, labeling, and address with the order to ensure outgoing shipments are complete and correct. Assign signatures to outbound shipments as needed. Efficiently move products, cartons, and pallets into trailers, rail cars, or containers.
  • Equipment: Maintain equipment in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion. Operate equipment safely and efficiently. Comply with company standards and OSHA requirements.
  • Inventory: Keep accurate records and reports. Assist in physical inventories and cycle counts. Ensure proper stock rotation. May key inventory adjustments in the computer.
  • Other Duties: Repack or re-box cases per customer instructions. Repair and consolidate damaged goods as required. Operate a shrink-wrap machine. Charge the forklift battery as needed; stack and separate good from bad pallets when necessary; clean railcars, trailers, truck docks, and bays as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay Transparency

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is

$35,500.00 - $56,925.00

Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
