Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Marion, NC is seeking a Finishing Utility Level 1 – Material Handler to determine materials for each order and ensure they are ready at the gluer before production begins. You will print labels, prepare forms, verify instructions, locate cases with AS400, move pallets with a lift, place corrugated in designated areas, and return excess stock to inventory as orders are completed.

1 year of manufacturing experience or related training is preferred; on-the-job training is

• 1-year work related experience in a manufacturing environment and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
• On the job training will be required for this position.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• The ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prints labels as needed for order based on information from job jacket.
• Prepares the Padlocker Control Information Form and forwards to the Padlocker Operator.
• Checks order instructions to verify proper case/pad/scored uboard to pull from inventory.
• Uses AS400 to locate cases and move to the floor.
• Drives lift to warehouse and retrieves cases, brings back to Finishing Department.
• Places corrugated at designated areas.
• Returns excess corrugated to inventory when job is complete.
• Reads and understands work schedule to determine the next order for gluing operation.
• Verifies number of pallets from Cutting Department with number of pallets to be glued.
• Reviews the Finishing instructions in the Order Instructions Display Program for customer specifications and special instructions.
• Determines and cuts the correct size layer board, dividers, and uboards that are to be used for the order.
• Checks and verifies the order number from the cutting load tag to the job jacket; moves pallet to gluer.
• Performs all duties according to established safety policy, including wearing all required PPEs to perform duties.
