Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in New York is seeking a Warehouse Associate to issue raw materials, move work in process, and prepare shipments.

Candidates should have a forklift license or ability to obtain one, basic computer skills, and be able to work overtime as needed; strong teamwork and reliability are valued.

Qualifications

• Prior warehouse experience preferred.
• Forklift license required or can be obtained.
• Basic safety rules knowledge and ability to follow procedures.
• Basic computer literacy and data entry.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic and work in a team.
• Good attendance and willingness to work overtime.

Responsibilities

• Stage trays, cages, pallets, cartons, dollies, skids, cut material and waste containers as required.
• Manage chipboard on and off of dollies and skids.
• Empty waste containers in each process area.
• Separate and discard corrugated, printed material and other garbage.
• Perform banding and stretch wrapping for shipments.
• Deliver shipments to departments and interface with truckers for outbound shipments.
• Act as back-up for shipping, receiving and warehousing.
• Follow SOPs, policies and safety guidelines.
• Record production information and ensure tasks are completed on schedule.
• Keep work area neat and clean.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

General Purpose

Issue raw materials in a timely fashion to designated work stations. Move work in process to designated areas. Segregate printed materials from other waste and dispose.

Essential Job Functions

• Stages trays, cages, pallets, cartons, dollies, skids, cut material, folded material and waste containers as required.
• Manages chipboard on and off of dollies and skids.
• Empties waste containers in each process area.
• Separates and properly discards corrugated, printed material, miscellaneous garbage.
• Performs banding, stretch wrapping etc. of materials for shipment.
• Delivers shipments to various departments.
• Interfaces with truckers for outbound shipments, ensures all necessary documentation and samples are properly secured with outgoing shipments.
• Acts as a back-up for shipping, receiving and warehousing.
• Follows all standard operating procedures relevant to the job, position and department.
• Follows established policies, work instructions and safety and environmental guidelines.
• Records production information such as amount of time spent on specific tasks.
• Performs all assigned work effectively and on schedule.
• Follows instructions accurately.
• Keeps work area neat and clean.
• Performs all other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Prior warehouse experience is preferred.
• Must have or able to obtain a fork lift license.
• Must demonstrate knowledge of or ability learn safety rules and procedures and operating policies and procedures.
• Must demonstrate basic computer knowledge (data entry).
• Must have the ability to perform basic arithmetic including additions, subtraction, multiplication and division.
• Must be able to work well in a team environment.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with others.
• Must be able to learn quickly and adapt to change.
• Must possess the following competencies: accuracy, reliability, decision making, time management and self motivation.
• Must be able to maintain good attendance.
• Must be willing to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods.
