Job summary

Ingersoll Rand in Southern Pines, NC is seeking a Material Handler to ensure timely availability of parts and materials. You will stock workstations, pick and move items, and operate forklifts in a safety-conscious environment.

The role requires at least 1 year in manufacturing or distribution, and adherence to ISO procedures. This onsite position offers a stable shift schedule (Mon-Thu 2:30pm–1:00am) and opportunities for growth within a global company.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in manufacturing or distribution.
  • Strong safety mindset and ability to follow ISO procedures.
  • Ability to obtain/hold Powered Industrial Vehicle forklift certification.
  • Proactive communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, ships, loads, and unloads materials/parts from suppliers or carriers using forklift, hand truck, or barcode system.
  • Visually inspects incoming pieces/parts for quality and damage, reporting issues.
  • Moves materials to designated lines or stock locations and updates inventory accordingly.
  • Reads work orders or follows instructions to transfer materials and resolves quantity mismatches.
  • Counts, weighs, and records units received, moved, or shipped; reports inconsistencies.
  • Operates forklifts and related equipment; keeps shelves clean and organized.
  • Receives work orders from planners and picks parts for machine shop, assembly, or kits.
  • Follows all safety rules and ISO procedures; supports continuous improvement.

Job Overview

The Material Handler is responsible for ensuring materials are supplied where and when they are needed. The Material Handler is responsible for keeping workstations fully stocked with materials, ultimately contributing to higher overall productivity of other workers.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, ships, loads, and unloads materials/parts from suppliers or carriers. Material may be unloaded from trucks, pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand, with forklift, or other material handling device. Uses computer and/or barcode scanner to properly identify stock locations to retrieve parts.
  • Visually inspects incoming pieces/parts for compliance and obvious damage; informing Quality if necessary.
  • Moves material/parts from warehouse or receiving area, to designated line or stock locations. Moving stock to release, consolidate, or change part locations. (Ex: to proper stock location, to inspection area, to machine cell) while using barcode scanner and/or computers.
  • Reads work order or follows oral instructions to determine materials to be transferred; informs inventory control to update computer system when necessary (Ex: quantity mismatch, mixed parts, wrong labels)
  • Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials received, moved, or shipped and reports inconsistencies to inventory control.
  • Operates forklift, hand truck, and/or other material handling equipment to assist in loading or moving any material. Remove any debris found on shelves throughout the warehouse.
  • Receives work orders from planners; picks parts to jobs for machine shop, assembly areas, staging for kits, and spare part sales orders using barcode scanner and/or computer.
  • Follows all ISO procedures and safety rules, including wearing personal safety equipment. Demonstrates excellence in completion of all other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 1+ years’ experience in manufacturing or distribution industry.

Core Competencies

  • Ability to effectively share information about job duties in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisor, customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to pass certification for Powered Industrial Vehicle license (such as the forklift certification).

Preferences

  • HS Diploma or GED preferred
  • Knowledge of inventory processes.
  • Process driven and systematic in their approach to completing their work
  • Ability to identify and solve problems.

Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements

  • This position will be based 100% onsite at our Southern Pines, North Carolina facility
  • Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally with a hoist to be used on objects over 40 pounds.
  • Standing: Standing is required in periods of up to three hours at a time.
  • Stooping: Would be required to lift objects off pallets
  • Hand Dexterity: Must be able to work with hand tools, screws and gauges, as well as operating buttons on controls.
  • Carrying: Capable of carrying 40 pounds for a distance of up to 25 feet.
