Job summary

Sonoco is seeking a Material Handler I at our Gastonia, NC facility. The role involves forklift operation, material handling of raw and finished goods, and supporting production with timely movement and documentation.

You must be willing to overtime, have excellent attendance, and strong written and verbal communication to follow manufacturing instructions and maintain safe, organized work areas.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a stand-up forklift safely and efficiently.
  • Move raw materials and finished goods to appropriate workstations and storage areas.
  • Verify tags/labels for accuracy and maintain inventory records.
  • Load/unload trucks and complete related paperwork.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Job description

Position: Material Handler I Location: Gastonia, NC Wage:$20.68 Shift: 2nd (3 pm-11pm) *Must be willing and flexible to work overtime when needed.*

While reporting to the Department Supervisor, you will be responsible for forklift driving and material handling of raw/finished goods in our tube and core division. You will be responsible for working in a quick and safe manner. Excellent attendance is crucial for the team to achieve success. You must have a proven record of success in a fast-paced environment.

What you will be doing
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient performance of assigned duties and the operation of a stand-up forklift.
  • Support the needs of production through the handling and distribution of finished goods, raw materials to the appropriate workstations throughout the plant.
  • Checks and verifies tags/marking/labels for accuracy.
  • Loads/unloads trucks; processes and maintains appropriate paperwork.
  • Maintains parts inventory; assists with monthly inventory; arranges and sorts warehouse stock.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work area.

To succeed in this role, you will need excellent writing and verbal communication skills and the ability to read and understand manufacturing instructions Working independently and managing multiple tasks simultaneously is needed.
