The Materials Handler I is an entry‑level operations role responsible for the accurate handling, movement, and staging of materials to support manufacturing and distribution activities. This role ensures materials, components, and finished goods are received, stored, and delivered to the correct locations in a safe, timely, and organized manner.

Role Overview

The Materials Handler I supports warehouse, stockroom, or production areas by performing basic material handling tasks such as receiving, stocking, picking, staging, and delivering materials. The role is developmental in nature, building foundational skills in inventory control, material flow, and manufacturing operations. This position typically reports to a Warehouse Supervisor, Materials Supervisor, or Manufacturing Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Material Handling & Movement Receive, move, and stage materials, components, or finished goods as directed
  • Deliver materials to production lines, work cells, or storage locations
  • Follow material flow processes to support production schedules
  • Inventory Support & Accuracy Perform basic inventory handling activities such as stocking, picking, or kitting
  • Ensure materials are properly labeled, stored, and identified
  • Report discrepancies, shortages, or damaged materials to supervisors
  • Receiving & Shipping Support Assist with unloading incoming materials and verifying quantities
  • Support preparation of outbound materials for shipment as required
  • Follow documented receiving and shipping proceduresSystem & Documentation Support Perform basic data entry or transactions in inventory or ERP systems as trained
  • Complete required logs, forms, or documentation accurately
  • Follow traceability and documentation requirements
  • Safety, Quality & Housekeeping Follow all safety rules, material handling procedures, and PPE requirements
  • Operate material handling equipment (e.g., carts, pallet jacks) as trained
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
  • Teamwork & Communication Work collaboratively with warehouse, manufacturing, and supply chain teams
  • Communicate issues, delays, or concerns promptly to supervisors
  • Support daily operations and shift hand‑offs
  • Learning & Development Learn material handling procedures, inventory systems, and safety practices
  • Participate in training and skill development activities
  • Demonstrate readiness for additional responsibilities over time
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Entry‑level role; typically 0–2 years of experience in warehousing, manufacturing, or material handling environments
  • Prior forklift or equipment experience preferred but not required
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures Basic understanding of material handling or warehouse operations Attention to detail and accuracy Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, moving, and standing Basic computer literacy for data entry or system transactions Strong teamwork and communication skills Reliable attendance and strong work ethic Commitment to safety and quality standards
