Material Handler - Laundry

POSITION PURPOSE

The Material Handler of Linen, under the direction of Supply Chain Management, receives, stores, collects, tracks, and transports linen (sterile, clean, and/or soiled) throughout SJMHS, including off-site clinics and satellite locations. The role involves working well with teams, independently, efficiently, and safely. Routine tasks include utilizing computers, tracking software, handheld units, and associated Supply Chain equipment. The position may involve delivering linen via a cargo truck, which requires safe operation and adherence to Michigan driving laws. Responsibilities include performing Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMI), monitoring the truck's physical condition, and refueling as needed. The Material Handler must demonstrate proficiency in all related work tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Transport and deliver equipment, linen, scrubs, and supplies to all user departments from the supply holding area.
• Manage unit inventories and coordinate linens to maintain adequate par levels and supply needs.
• Coordinate with Receiving Dock Handlers to ensure smooth flow of supplies, linen, and equipment.
• Assist unloading laundry trucks and transport clean linen to the designated area.
• Prepare and deliver clean linen exchange carts according to schedule and par levels.
• Collect soiled linen daily and transport to the dock; transfer linen from collection carts to laundry carts for processing.
• Place linen replenishment orders with Co-op Laundry.
• Operate freight elevator to move supplies and linens.
• Maintain distribution records and respond to routine inquiries with good customer service.
• Operate SJMHS trucks for off-site clinics and satellite locations, including performing PMI, monitoring vehicle condition, and refueling.
• Use power industrial pallet jacks to move heavy supplies.
• Maintain good relationships, address conflicts constructively, and contribute to problem-solving.
• Ensure confidentiality of patient, physician, employee, and visitor information, discussing only with appropriate personnel.
• Perform duties safely, report hazards, and adhere to safety protocols.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Experience: None required.
• Current MI Driver's License required.
