POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Material Handler in our Fabrication Department, you will play a crucial role in the efficient flow of materials across the yard, ensuring the seamless movement of structural steel, stock, and other materials. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, your responsibilities include safe equipment operation, material handling, and hazard identification to maintain a safe and productive environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Material Transportation: Safely move freight, stock, and materials between storage areas, production zones, loading docks, and delivery vehicles, either manually or using equipment such as trucks and tractors.
• Cargo Organization: Sort and prepare cargo for loading or unloading, ensuring materials are correctly placed and ready for the next stage.
• Identification & Tagging: Attach identification tags to materials or mark them clearly with the appropriate information for efficient processing and tracking.
• Work Order Compliance: Follow work orders and verbal instructions to complete tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
• Quality Assurance: Inspect products to ensure they meet established quality standards and immediately report any inconsistencies.
• Equipment Operation: Start and operate machinery or equipment to assist with production processes, contributing to the overall productivity of the shop.
• Tools & Equipment Operation:
• Basic Tools: Proficient in using hand tools like hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, and tape measures.
• Heavy Equipment: Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes.
• Specialized Machinery: Familiarity with wrapping machinery, banding machines, and mechanical technologies such as tool and equipment design, use, and maintenance.
• Technology: Basic computer and office software skills are a plus but not required.
• Routine Inspections: Perform regular equipment checks, reporting issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have forklift experience
• Safety-First Attitude: Strong commitment to safety, consistently utilizing proper safety gear and following safety protocols.
  
• Valid Driver’s License: Must hold a valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to Train: Must be willing to complete OSHA 10 training upon being hired.
• Education: A high school diploma or GED is highly preferred.
• Team-Oriented: Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating self-motivation and reliability.

IMPORTANT NOTES

• This is a safety-sensitive position. In accordance with JGM’s safety policy and applicable regulations, individuals actively using medical marijuana are not eligible for this role.
• Candidates must successfully pass a drug screening, including testing for marijuana, prior to starting employment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

As a Material Handler, you will perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy objects. Your work may take place outdoors in various weather conditions. You may be exposed to hazardous materials, loud noises, and dangerous machinery, requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, hardhats, protective suits, and respiratory devices. Workers must exercise caution and be adept at identifying and mitigating potential hazards to ensure a safe working environment for themselves and others.

RESUMEN DE LA POSICIÓN

Como manipulador de materiales en nuestro Departamento de Fabricación, desempeñará un papel crucial en el flujo eficiente de materiales a través del patio, asegurando el movimiento continuo del acero estructural, el material y otros materiales. Reportando directamente al Gerente de Planta, sus responsabilidades incluyen la operación segura del equipo, el manejo de materiales y la identificación de peligros para mantener un entorno seguro y productivo.

RESPONSABILIDADES

• Transporte de materiales: Mueva de forma segura la carga, el stock y los materiales entre las áreas de almacenamiento, las zonas de producción, los muelles de carga y los vehículos de reparto, ya sea manualmente o utilizando equipos como camiones y tractores.
  
  
• Organización de la carga: Clasifique y prepare la carga para la carga o descarga, asegurando que los materiales estén correctamente colocados y listos para la siguiente etapa.
  
  
• Identificación y etiquetado: Adjunte etiquetas de identificación a los materiales o márquelos claramente con la información adecuada para un procesamiento y seguimiento eficientes.
  
  
• Cumplimiento de órdenes de trabajo: Siga las órdenes de trabajo y las instrucciones verbales para completar las tareas con precisión y de manera oportuna.
  
  
• Aseguramiento de la calidad: Inspeccione los productos para asegurarse de que cumplen con los estándares de calidad establecidos e informe inmediatamente cualquier inconsistencia.
  
  
• Operación del equipo: Inicie y opere maquinaria o equipo para ayudar con los procesos de producción, contribuyendo a la productividad general del taller.

• Maquinaria especializada: Familiaridad con la maquinaria de envoltura, las máquinas enfajadoras y las tecnologías mecánicas como el diseño, el uso y el mantenimiento de herramientas y equipos.
• Tecnología: Las habilidades básicas de informática y software de oficina son una ventaja, pero no son obligatorias.
• Inspecciones de rutina: Realice comprobaciones periódicas de los equipos, informando de los problemas con prontitud para minimizar el tiempo de inactividad y mantener la eficiencia operativa.
  

CALIFICACIONES

Actitud de seguridad primero: Fuerte compromiso con la seguridad, utilizando constantemente el equipo de seguridad adecuado y siguiendo los protocolos de seguridad.
Licencia de conducir válida: Debe tener una licencia de conducir válida.
Disposición para capacitar: Debe estar dispuesto a completar la capacitación OSHA 10 al ser contratado.
Educación: Es muy preferible un diploma de escuela secundaria o GED.
Orientado al equipo: Capacidad para trabajar tanto de forma independiente como formando parte de un equipo, demostrando automotivación y fiabilidad.

AMBIENTE LABORAL

Como manipulador de materiales, realizará tareas físicamente exigentes, como levantar y transportar objetos pesados. Su trabajo puede tener lugar al aire libre en diversas condiciones climáticas. Usted puede estar expuesto a materiales peligrosos, ruidos fuertes y maquinaria peligrosa, que requiere el uso de equipo de protección personal (EPP) como guantes, cascos, trajes protectores y dispositivos respiratorios. Los trabajadores deben tener precaución y ser expertos en identificar y mitigar los peligros potenciales para garantizar un entorno de trabajo seguro para ellos y los demás.
