Job summary

Chesapeake Shipbuilding Corp. is seeking a full-time forklift/yard worker for the evening shift (3:00pm–11:30pm) in Salisbury, MD. Overtime and weekend hours may be required based on business needs.

Earn $21.00–$30.00 per hour, plus a $2.00 shift differential and robust benefits for full-time employees. Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with telehandler forklift in a construction environment.
  • Ability to warehouse machinery safely and efficiently, including forklifts.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 75 lbs and long periods of standing.
  • Ability to read and understand written and oral job instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Move, stack, load and unload products and materials efficiently.
  • Operate forklift and make minor adjustments as needed.
  • Load and unload transport vehicles per bill of lading.
  • Pull product and stage orders; complete daily Pre-Op Inspection Sheet.
  • Work indoors and outdoors; follow all safety guidelines.

ABOUT THE JOB: This opportunity is a full-time and benefits-eligible position.

SHIFT:
  • Evening Shift: 3:00pm – 11:30pm
  • Monday - Friday
  • Overtime and Weekend required based on business needs

REPORTS TO: Fitting Supervisor/On-Site Foreman/Shipyard Superintendent

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Move, stack, load, and unload products and materials effectively and efficiently.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & TASKS:
  • Lift, stack and un-stack products and materials. I.e. 10’x40’ plates, 40’ angles/tubes.
  • Move raw materials and finished goods to processing or dispatch areas of facility.
  • Make sure goods are stored in the correct area of the plant and/or warehouse so they may be located easily.
  • Load and unload transport vehicles, making sure loads are evenly and securely placed, per bill of lading.
  • Make minor adjustments to the forklift.
  • Complete daily Pre-Op Inspection Sheet. Pull product and stage orders.
  • Follow all guidelines as set forth in the forklift driver’s manual and policy.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Work safe and report all unsafe working conditions and/or unsafe acts to supervisor immediately.
  • Knowledge of structural shapes and sites.
  • All other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience with telehandler forklift in a construction environment.
  • Ability to warehouse machinery safely and efficiently, including forklifts.
  • Physically capable of performing the job's essential duties and lifting up to 75lbs.
  • Ability to understand written and oral job instructions.
  • Ability to follow all safety standards and policies.
  • Ability to multitask and assist the production team when required.
  • Must be able to read measuring tape.
  • Able to work independently and in teams.
Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • All types of physical movement are required for this position to successfully perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to use upper and lower extremities.
  • Ability to work outside in heat, inclement weather, and cold.
  • Ability to crawl, kneel, crouch, climb, and bend around and under equipment, on ladders up to 24' at heights up to 70', stairs, scaffolds, through small accesses, enter inside of tanks, and confined spaces, through hatches, and manholes throughout much of the work shift.
  • Ability to work over bodies of water.
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain, including loose pack gravel.
  • Ability to safely wear and use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection, safety glasses, welding shields, grinding shields, gloves, life jackets, harnesses, hard hats, and other task- or area-specific PPE, as applicable. Employees required to wear tight-fitting respiratory protection must maintain facial hair in a manner that does not interfere with the respirator’s sealing surface or proper fit, in accordance with applicable respiratory protection requirements.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Normal level of visual acuity needed. Must be able to understand and follow directions. Normal hearing level needed. Hand-eye coordination required.

HAZARDS:

Weather, fumes, moving mechanical parts, high noise levels, equipment, and vibration.
