Job summary

SEAPORT STEEL COMPANY is seeking a Material Handler in Portland, OR. The role involves crane operation, material handling, and ensuring safe load hookups with a Mon-Fri shift from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

Starting pay ranges from $20.25 to $23.75 per hour, with benefits including health/dental/vision, EAP, PTO, 401(k), and growth opportunities. Requirements include a GED or high school diploma with 2 years related experience, basic math, good reading/writing, and strong instruction-following skills.

Qualifications

• GED or High School degree and 2 years related experience and training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Basic math including fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Able to read, write, and communicate clearly.
• Able to follow instructions and solve routine problems.
• Competent with forklift and overhead crane-related tasks.

Responsibilities

• Observe load hookup and determine the safety of the load.
• Manipulate or depress crane control buttons, to regulate the speed and direction of crane and hoist movement.
• Use hoisting attachments such as hook, sling, or bucket as load requires.
• Cleans and maintains a crane and hoisting mechanism.
• Inspect crane for defective parts and notify supervisors of defects or malfunctions.

Pay: $20.25 – $23.75 per hour

Job Type: Full-Time

Most employees start between $20.25-$22.00/hour. The higher end of the range, $23.75/hour, is reserved for candidates with exceptional experience or qualifications.

Shift is Mon-Fri, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM

What You’ll Do
