Salary Range: $19.00 - $22.00
Job Shift: 1st Shift
Description

Primary Purpose of this Position:

Fill customer orders and put together shipments of fabricated bar, warehouse bar, and other materials for shipments to customer and suppliers. Receive and unload incoming material from suppliers. Locate material into inventory storage, staging areas, and work areas.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Identify steel shapes, sizes, and mill tolerances.
  2. Locate material as trained and instructed.
  3. Locate bars or mesh according to the layout shown on yard map, cut lists and shop drawings.
  4. Load/unload trailers, rail cars, customer vehicles, and machines.
  5. Identify cut list and shop drawing errors and discrepancies before or during early stages of fabrication.
  6. Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, jib cranes, conveyors, and transfers in order to move materials.
  7. Any other duties assigned by management.
  8. Attend all meetings as required by management.
  9. Consistently and reliably works scheduled hours at assigned locations.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to read, write, and perform higher arithmetic computations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimals and fractions.
  2. Ability to understand and carry out semi-complicated verbal and written instructions.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate with vendors, co-workers, supervisors and managers.
  4. Ability to work under periodic supervision focused on the progress of work and setting priorities for job completion.
  5. Skill in using auto measurer, tape measure, or 1 rule.
  6. Ability to pass a Drake-Williams Steel, Inc. administered test that covers shop drawing interpretation, fractional number calculations, basic geometry, etc.
  7. Ability to interpret, understand and utilize cutting lists, shop orders, and shop drawings.
  8. Ability to use a computer for cut-lists and inventory purposes.
  9. Ability to possess pride in own workmanship, demonstrate attention to detail, and work safely.
  1. Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes in a safe and proper manner. Use and understand industry and Drake-Williams Steel adopted hand signals used for crane operations.
  2. Perform minor mechanical tasks on machines (change forklift tank, cleaning, etc.)
  3. Ability to follow inventory procedures.
  4. Ability to multi-task.

Physical Demands:

  1. Stand FREQUENTLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
  2. Walk CONTINOUSLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
  3. Sit only during the break and lunch periods.
  4. Lift weights up to 30 pounds FREQUENTLY from floor to head, which includes the various tools and blocks utilized in the process of performing the usual work duties during the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
  5. Lift weights up to 60 pounds OCCASIONALLY from knee to waist, which includes the various tools utilized in the process of performing the usual work duties during the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
  6. Carry weights noted above distances ranging from a few feet to 300 feet.
  7. Climb OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY up and down steps, ladders, or onto conveyors.
  8. Stoop or crouch OCCASIONALLY while performing the regular job duties. The position will be held continuously for a few seconds to 15 minutes, depending upon the job.
  9. Kneel in the commission of job duties OCCASIONALLY, depending upon the job.
  10. Crawl OCCASIONALLY up to 5 feet to access tools, materials, etc.
  11. Reach forward OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to perform job duties or to retrieve tools. The employee will OCCASIONALLY be required to reach to full forward extension.
  12. Reach overhead OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to guide material attached to the cranes, to attach the cables to the stiff leg, to locate blocks, or to saw blocks.
  13. Push and pull material attached to an overhead crane or jib crane OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to properly guide into place. Force varies up to 35 pounds.
  14. Pull hand over hand OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to pull chain through material. Force varies up to 50 pounds.
  15. Upper Extremity whipping/shaking motion of rebar up to 60 OCCASIONALLY TO FREQUENTLY on shear line.
Non-Material Handling Demands
  1. Employee is expected to work 40 hours a week. However, hours including overtime and weekends may be required based on Drake-Williams Steels needs.
  2. Hear sufficiently to be aware of safety issues.
  3. Visual ability to read and interpret cut lists and shop drawings. Safety glasses are required in the shop area.
  4. Exposure to heat, cold, wet and humid conditions in the shop/yard areas based on weather conditions.
  5. Exposure to fumes, odors and dusts in the shop/yard areas OCCASIONALLY.
  6. Exposure to solvents, greases, oils, and coolants OCCASIONALLY.
  7. Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment. PPE includes steel-toe safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hats.

Tools Required:

Pencil, Tape Measure, Markers, Chainsaw, Cables, Pry-Bar, Ladders, Remote Control, Band Cutters, Wire Cutters, and Bolt Cutters.

Machines Utilized:

Overhead Crane, Jib Crane, Transfers, and Forklifts.

Experience and Education Required:

  1. Minimum of six months of experience in a steel manufacturing environment preferred.
