Job summary

ColonialWebb, a full-service MEP contractor in Richmond, VA, is hiring a construction site Material Handler. You will receive, inspect, store, and issue site material, prepare documentation, and coordinate material offloads to keep the site organized.

The ideal candidate has forklift experience, strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills. We offer a competitive hourly wage of $17–$27, PTO, health benefits, 401(k) with company match, and career development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of material control procedures and handling
• Prior forklift operator experience is preferred
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks in a timely manner
• Ability to work without direct supervision and communicate effectively
• Comfort with documenting storage, shipments, and inventory
• Proactive in reporting issues and maintaining site material organization

Responsibilities

• Receive, inspect, store, locate and issue site material and prepare required documentation
• Accept materials as shipments arrive to the construction site
• Check freight bills and purchase orders against physical shipments
• Coordinate offloading of materials and maintain accurate inventory
• Tag material with Purchase Orders and location information
• Maintain tidy, organized storage areas and report problems to supervisor
• Assist in preparing material for outbound shipments and loading readiness

A day in the life:

• Receive, inspect, store, locate and issue site material, and prepare required documentation and records
• Accept materials as shipments arrive to construction site
• Check freight bills and purchase orders against physical shipment for numbers, damage, etc.
• Initiate new packing lists if discrepancies occur
• Coordinate offloading of materials
• Photograph damages, document overages and/or shortages in material shipment discrepancies.
• Tag all material with appropriate Purchase Order, receiver, and/or tag numbers
• Place material in proper area according to storage and handling lists; initiate storage change and document new location when necessary
• Maintain site material organization and cleanliness, etc. - report problems to supervisor
• Issue material as directed, locate material, assist in material removal, and insure documentation is complete and accurate
• Locate and prepare material for outbound shipment. Notify supervisor when shipment is ready; coordinate loading
• Purchase for stock only the minimum preapproved items that are a daily requirement
• Keep up to date inventory of tools-number, condition, location-and schedule relocation of tools as jobs dictate

You should have:

• Working knowledge of material control procedures, techniques, systems, etc.
• Previous forklift operator experience
• Excellent attention to detail
• Excellent organization skills
• Ability to coordinate and perform multiple activities in a timely manner
• Ability to work without direct supervision
• Ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with vendors, suppliers, coworkers, and customers
• Ability to wear personal protection equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, fall protection, safety shoes, and others as required
