Metals USA in Waggaman, LA is hiring a Material Handler for the 2nd shift. You will move and manage inventory, operate yard trucks and cranes, and load/unload trailers while ensuring accurate labeling and safe handling of materials.

Responsibilities include maintaining production paperwork, inspecting goods for quality, and supporting a clean, safe work environment. Prior experience with heavy equipment is preferred.

Formación

• Must be able to perform basic arithmetic and unit conversions accurately.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Ability to read measuring tapes, micrometers, and calipers accurately.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods during shifts.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.
• Industrial warehouse experience is preferred.
• Experience operating heavy equipment is preferred.
• Detail oriented with ability to inspect material for quality.
• Overhead crane certification preferred.
• Candidate must pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsabilidades

• Receives, places and returns items into stock locations.
• Tags materials for proper identification.
• Pulls and assembles customer orders for delivery.
• Operates yard truck to load and unload trailers.
• Operates cranes to load/unload trailers.
• Operates forklift to load/unload trailers.
• Securely load materials on trucks and restock as needed.
• Complete and document production and quality paperwork.
• Perform grinding and oxy-fuel torch tasks as required.
• Maintain clean, safe work areas and return tools to designated spots.
• Ensure material centers are loaded and ready for production.
• Notify management of discrepancies, malfunctions, or injuries.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Restock materials as part of daily duties.

Physical Requirements:

In a typical workday, employee is standing, walking, seeing, hearing, grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, shoving, lifting, driving (yard truck or forklift), climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking. Must be capable of lifting wt. up to forty (40) lbs. with or without lifting devices.

Working Conditions:

Employee will work in an open warehouse the majority (98%) of the time and will be exposed to some or all of the following working conditions: extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils and atmospheric conditions such as dust, fumes and metallic particles. Employee will be exposed to the hazards of working with heavy machinery. Employee is required to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves and safety boots. The Company furnishes initial hard hat, gloves and safety glasses. The employee furnishes safety boots at own expense.

Material Handler -2nd Shift

Metals USA has an immediate opening for a Material Handler in the Waggaman, LA Facility. The Material Handler per forms duties related to the storage and movement of inventory or equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Receives, places/returns items into stock inventory locations.
• Tags materials for proper identification
• Pulls and assembles customer orders in order of delivery.
• Operates yard truck for the purpose of loading and unloading trailers.
• Operates cranes to load/unload trailers.
• Operates forklift (5k or 10k) to load/unload trailers.
• Securing loaded material onto truck and may load and unload materials.
• Completes and documents production and quality paperwork; follow shop system data collection procedures.
• Performs tasks that include grinding and using an oxy fuel torch.
• Maintains work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe manner, including the return of tools and equipment to designated areas.
• Assures all machine operation centers are timely loaded with material for production.
• Notifies management of product discrepancies, equipment malfunctions and/or personal injuries.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Material Handler.
• Restocks material.
