Position Summary
This position is responsible for weighing gram bags for compound batches and unloading bulk raw materials from tanks, railcars and trucks.
Essential Functions
- Ability to work overtime is required, including extended shifts and weekends, to meet business needs.
- Accurately weigh ingredients for gram bags by following recipe to properly supply mixers.
- Operation of all bulk unloading systems to transfer delivered blacks, clays and oils into bulk storage.
- Order raw materials as needed.
- Manage inventory of raw materials, incoming supplies and needs of the mixers.
- Sample and identify raw materials. Confirm quality.
- Keep area clean.
- Must use frequent physical effort to perform job duties.
- Able to foster professionalism with all associates along with internal and external customers.
- Monitor and follow all safety preventative measures and practices, including 5S+ safety guidelines.
Department Specific Functions
- Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures in a manner that eliminates risk to health and the environment. Notify leadership of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to leadership immediately.
- Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.
- Participate on project teams, star point teams and kaizen events when needed.
- Attend and participate in all training opportunities required to develop in the role.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in manufacturing preferred.
- Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
- Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Sound decision making skills.
- Good math, reading and writing skills.
- Be able to exercise continuous mental, visual and audio attention.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Basic computer skills.
- Vision: Near acuity and accommodation for reading information to perform job tasks.
- Requires constant alertness to surroundings and product quality with attention to detail.
- Must be able to operate material handling equipment and hoist, if needed.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to operate material handling equipment.
- Includes outdoor work.
- Ability to work in hot and cold temperatures.
- Includes climbing ladders in all types of weather.
- Lift/Carry up to 10 lbs (frequent).
- 11‑20 lbs (frequent).
- 21‑35 lbs (frequent).
- Bending, twist/turn, reach below knee, push/pull, squat/kneel, stand/walk, sit, lifting above shoulders – all continuous.
- Other Skills: Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Assessment: Employee must successfully complete pre‑employment screening.
Organizational Relationships & Scope
- Report directly to Value Stream Team Leader.
- Work closely with other departments to resolve issues with the processes & equipment.
Working Conditions
The employee may be subject to:
- High noise levels from operating machines and equipment.
- Physical hazards from operating machines and moving reels.
- Work in areas where safety equipment will be required (steel toe shoes, eye protection, hearing protection, high visibility clothing).
- Standing is required for extended periods of time. Walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, twisting, squatting, and lifting is performed on a regular basis.
- Requires high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions.
- Ability to work overtime, including short‑notice overtime and weekend coverage to meet business needs.
