Unison at the Dayton site is seeking a Material Handler to provide general material support and ensure accurate shipping and receiving operations. The role involves 5S housekeeping, pulling parts by FIFO, packing and labeling, and coordinating domestic shipments with carriers.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, 6 months’ related experience, forklift certification, and a valid driver license to operate the forklift and company van.

• Checks pack list and verifies accuracy
• Prepares and sets up boxes for shipping
• Boxes and crates shipments for outside services
• Prepares OV shipments
• Consolidates shipping
• Pull parts by FIFO
• Ships domestic shipments per customer requirements
• Uses Fed-Ex/UPS/DHL process for domestic shipments
• Banding and shrink wrapping
• Prepares specific customer labels
• Operates a forklift with proper training
• Unloads trucks
• Receives materials using set process with tracking
• Restocks materials
• Replenishes point of use materials
• Uses measuring devices including scales
• Follows work instructions and procedures
• Ensures all paperwork is filled out accurately
• Meets team goals
• Cross trains
• Works with other shop areas to move and store materials
• Adheres to Lean Manufacturing guidelines
• Works with minimal coaching in a team environment
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Transport material to and from OV suppliers in company van

Role Overview

• Provides general material support throughout the site


• General housekeeping in area (5S)


• Prepares domestic dock shipments to include crating, boxing, labeling and examining for specifications


• Checks pack list and verifies accuracy


• Prepares and set up boxes for shipping


• Boxes and crates shipments for outside services


• Prepares OV shipments


• Consolidates shipping


• Pull Parts by FIFO


• Ships domestic shipments based on customer requirements


• Uses Fed-Ex/UPS/DHL process for domestic shipments

• Prepares specific customer labels


• Operates a fork lift with proper training


• Unloads trucks


• Receives materials using set process by utilizing proper tracking and moving materials accordingly

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)


• 6 months of related experience and/or training


• Forklift certification


• Valid driver license is required to operate a forklift and company van


• This role may encounter high risk or hazardous operations and/or include working shifts beyond a standard workweek. As such, a requirement of the role is to be at least 18 years of age by the time of joining.

Additional Information

• Wages $20.10 per hour


• While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand at least 6 to 8 hours a day.


• Must be able to work with upper body extremities.


• Must be able to walk, sit, or stoop on a regular basis.


• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis.


• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds on occasion. Items more than 30 pounds will be lifted with assistance.


• While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to moving high speed machinery and/or mechanical parts.


• Employee will be required to use approved chemicals and may be exposed to dust, fumes, or smoke from normal machining operations. (Not over OSHA Permissible Exposure Levels (PEL)).


• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
