Job summary

Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope (OBE) is seeking a Material Handler to move, load, and unload glass and metal products on the 1st shift in our Houston plant. You will rotate through laminating process phases, assisting the Production Supervisor, and supporting safe, efficient production.

The role fits a reliable team player who can read work orders, use basic math, and operate forklifts and overhead cranes. Prior production experience and willingness to work overtime are a plus.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Experience in production/manufacturing preferred.
• Ability to read work orders and perform basic math.
• Dependable with regular attendance and punctuality.
• Flexible to work overtime and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Move glass and metal products safely from tables, rolling racks, delivery trucks or crates.
• Operate equipment, including forklift and overhead crane surroundings.
• Transport and rotate materials through laminating processes.
• Read work orders and follow safety, quality, and productivity standards.
• Inspect product quality and ensure materials meet specifications.
• Read tape measures and interpret basic measurements.
• Attach labels and paperwork accordingly.
• Maintain a clean work area and notify supervisor of issues.

What You’ll Get To Do

The Material Handler is focused on moving, loading, and unloading glass and metal products throughout the plant to expedite the production process. As a vital member of the 1st Shift Sampling Department, you will rotate through various phases of the laminating process to keep production moving safely and efficiently. This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor and is ideal for a reliable team player looking to build a career with an industry leader.

Job Responsibilities

• Move glass and metal products safely from tables, rolling racks, delivery trucks, or wood crates.
• Operate specialized equipment, including driving a forklift and working around an overhead vacuum-assisted 3-ton crane.
• Transport and rotate materials manually or with equipment through various phases of the laminating process.
• Read work orders and follow strict job standards for safety, quality, and production efficiency.
• Inspect product quality for visual flaws and ensure materials meet product specifications.
• Use a tape measure to read and interpret basic mathematical measurements accurately.
• Attach appropriate labels and tags to products, packages, and required paperwork.
• Maintain a clean work area and immediately notify the supervisor of any mechanical or material issues.

Here’s What We’re Looking For

• Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Experience: Prior work experience inside a production or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Equipment & Tech: Ability to drive a forklift and work around overhead cranes; basic computer knowledge is preferred.
• Skills: Ability to read, understand, communicate, and perform general mathematical equations.
• Dependability: Regular attendance, punctuality, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Flexibility: Ability to prioritize work under deadlines and work overtime when required.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk for the entire shift on a concrete floor (up to 10 hours).
• Lift, push, pull, or move up to 75 lbs. individually and 150 lbs. with a partner.
• Constant physical movement: Reaching, handling, grasping, twisting, bending, and kneeling.
• Visual acuity to safely inspect glass products for quality flaws.
• PPE: Proper wear of all company-issued safety gear (safety shirt, hard hat, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection).
• Environment: Ability to work in moderate to high noise levels and temperatures consistent with regional outdoor climate conditions (heat, humidity, cold).
