Overview
The Material Handler I reports directly to the Material Supervisor and utilizes knowledge of design-build electrical industry materials to perform logistics tasks such as receiving, storing, and issuing materials, equipment, and other items from the M.C. Dean warehouse and suppliers. The Material Handler I has a solid understanding of the Logistics Service Center processes and procedures and works on a variety of tasks, potentially assisting with problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Receiving, verifying, and counting stock items; maintaining records of the data as appropriate.
- Verifying inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts.
- Investigating inventory discrepancies and reconciling errors.
- Packing and unpacking items for storage.
- Labeling stock items with identification tags, stamps, or electronic tools.
- Cleaning and maintaining supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure safety compliance.
- Determining proper storage methods based on various factors.
- Storing stock items in an organized, safe, and accessible manner.
- Inspecting stock items for damage or defects and reporting issues.
- Maintaining records related to stock usage and damage.
- Using internal software systems like the Material Requisition System, Equipment Transfer System, and Procurement Mobile.
- Understanding and applying knowledge of the design-build electrical industry in processes and procedures.
- Assisting with training and mentoring less experienced staff.
- Maintaining high productivity by completing tasks within deadlines.
- Using advanced reporting and tracking functions in MS Excel.
- Communicating professionally via MS Outlook.
- Providing support to other project staff as needed.
Qualifications
Education:
- 2+ years of experience with a High School Diploma or
- 1+ years with an Associate's Degree
Proficiency with electrical design-build materials, equipment, and Logistics Service Center processes at M.C. Dean, including:
- Intermediate MS Excel and Outlook skills.
- Excellent reporting, tracking, and accuracy skills.
- Ability to manage critical tasks individually, such as controlling programs, managing lay down areas, and loading/unloading zones.
Abilities
- Lifting at least 100 pounds at once and 60 pounds for extended periods.
- Relocating a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
- Working at heights up to 60 feet, climbing scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
- Performing routine physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching.
- Good vision (corrected if necessary), color vision, hearing, and communication skills in English.
- Using ladders and tools within safety limits.
- Recognizing problems or potential issues.
- Applying general rules to specific problems.
- Integrating information to form conclusions.
- Seeing details at close range.
- Understanding spoken information effectively.
