Job summary

GE Vernova is seeking a warehouse/shipping associate to manage inbound and outbound shipments, record data in our ERP system, and verify items against orders.

The role requires basic forklift operation, familiarity with ERP/SAP, and the ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines, and collaborate with internal teams. A high school diploma is required and overtime may be necessary.

Qualifications

• Experience with inventory control and shipping processes is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret bills of lading, invoices and orders.
• Familiarity with ERP systems and data entry accuracy is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Verify and record incoming and outgoing shipments in ERP system.
• Compare shipment details against bills of lading and orders.
• Determine shipment methods, arrange carriers when needed.
• Label packed cartons and prepare shipping documents.
• Assemble and pack components, containerize items and protect packaging.
• Post weights and shipping charges; affix postage as required.
• Unpack, inspect, and communicate discrepancies to vendors or shippers.
• Participate in inventories and reconcile counts to system records.
• Move shipments within facility using appropriate equipment.
• Support production by routing items to kanban areas and departments.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment. Inputs all shipment information into ERP computer system.
• Compares identifying information and counts, weighs or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records.
• Determines method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes and rates. Makes carrier arrangements when necessary.
• Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons, using stenciling equipment.
• Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
• Inserts items into containers, using spacers, fillers and protective padding.
• Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape, using strapping machine.
• Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
• Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items/goods, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
• Participates in physical inventories and inventory reconciliation exercises to meet overall inventory accuracy goals
• Routes items to various internal departments and kanban areas for manufacturing projects.
• Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
• Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
• May operate forklift truck or use hand-truck to move, convey or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
• Other duties may be assigned by management to meet business needs.
• Pull and kit parts for the assembly team to assemble projects/orders.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED

Desired Characteristics:

• Prior production and inventory control experience helpful
• Forklift certification
• Reach Stacker or Crane certification
• Must be familiar with ERP systems. SAP knowledge a plus.
• Calculate surface, volumes, weights and dimensions of packaged equipment or components.
• Ability to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures and practices.
• Must be able to make decision with regards to completion of tasks and job methods and follow through with results of outcome.
• Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Must be able to interact and communicate with internal customers. Internal customers may include production, engineers, and management personnel.
• Ability to prioritize workload and shift work activities in order to meet business needs and department goals, essential.
• Must be able to independently arrange and organize work efforts on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis. Must be able to meet tight deadlines. Ability to multi-task on a consistent basis.
• Ability to make recommendations regarding job methods and departmental procedures.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.
• Frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle and/or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl in performing assignments.
• Ability to lift packages/shipments weighing on average between 20 to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to use telephone, computer, monitor, mouse/track ball, and keyboard for limited periods of time.
• Must be able to attend work on a daily basis in a regular and timely manner.
• Extended hours or overtime maybe required on occasion.
