Job summary

The Shaw Group, Llc in Walker, LA is seeking a Material Handler to load, unload, and move materials within the plant, yard, or work site, using forklifts, dollies, wheels, or cranes to support production and maintain material flow.

You will read instructions, plan transfers, inspect materials, track inventory, and keep work areas clean while following safety rules and company policies. This is a full-time on-site role in Walker, LA.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with pipe materials and fittings is a plus.
• Experience identifying fittings, flanges, and valves.
• Receiving and/or forklift experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Arranges on-site transfer of materials to meet production schedules.
• Visually inspects and receives material in all weather conditions.

Summary:

Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant, yard, or work site. May move materials manually or using a forklift, dolly, wheelbarrow, or a crane operated crane or hoist. Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities. Track all material for each job.

Responsibilities:

• Reads and interprets instructions and documentation and plans work activities.
• Arranges on-site transfer of materials and equipment to meet production schedules.
• Will be required to visually inspect and receive material in all-weather condition .
• Arranges on-site transfer of materials and equipment to meet production schedules and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities.
• Coordinates and expedites flow of materials between departments and work areas, according to schedules or department priorities.
• Reviews production schedules and related information and confers with department supervisors to determine material requirements to identify overdue materials and to track material.
• Examines material delivered to production departments to verify conformance to specifications.
• May assist with computing the amount of material required to complete job tasks.
• Compiles and maintains manual or computerized records, such as material inventory, in-process production reports, and status and location of materials.
• Compare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures, and objects.
• Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
• Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
• Performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience:

• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent and previous years of related experience.
• Experience working with pipe commodity .
• Experience with identifying fittings, flanges, valves commodity .
• Receiving and/or Forklift experience, a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
• Ability to sit at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods of time.
• Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl or talk and hear.
• Ability to see with visual acuity and distinguish between colors.
• Ability to operate a forklift and other light equipment.
• Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
