Job summary

Harris American is seeking a Material Handler for our production facility. You will move materials safely using forklifts and handling equipment, verify incoming materials, and manage storage per GMP guidelines. Candidates should be familiar with inventory systems and barcode processes.

Responsibilities include receiving, selecting materials per work orders, and maintaining a clean, safe work area while coordinating with teams to meet production schedules.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • 2–4 years related experience in a production environment.
  • Training or knowledge in dispensing or batch-processing manufacturing, bar coding and automated dosing systems.

  • Adhere to safety regulations to prevent accidents, injuries, or damage to equipment or materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment by sweeping and disposing of waste properly.
  • Communicate with team members and supervisors to coordinate activities and ensure timely completion.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION – PURPOSE OF ROLE:
A material handler must be able to work in compliance with good manufacturing practice (GMP), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and internal safety guidelines and training, including (But not limited to) the maneuvering and handling of all material with proper material-handling equipment

Essential Functions:

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Safely and efficiently move materials using various equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and conveyors.
  • Receive incoming materials, verify quantities, inspect for damage or defects, and record information in inventory systems.
  • Pick materials from designated locations according to pick lists or work orders.
  • Organize and store materials in designated locations, ensuring proper handling and storage conditions to prevent damage or deterioration.
  • Load and unload trucks, trailers, or containers using proper lifting techniques and equipment to ensure safe and secure transport of materials.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and procedures at all times to prevent accidents, injuries, or damage to equipment or materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment by sweeping, removing debris, and disposing of waste materials properly.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to coordinate activities, report issues, and ensure timely completion of tasks.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • 2 - 4 years related experience in a production environment
  • Trained or knowledgeable in dispensing or batch-processing manufacturing, bar coding and automated dosing systems
  • Must be able to pass the forklift certification written & practical tests. Onsite training provided
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

The successful candidate should:

  • Understand safety protocols and procedures related to material handling, including proper lifting techniques, equipment operation, and hazardous material handling.
  • Have knowledge of inventory management principles and practices, including receiving, storing, picking, and shipping materials accurately and efficiently.
  • Be familiar with various types of material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, conveyor belts, and hoists, including their operation, maintenance, and safety requirements.
Education Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

The environments range from cold and dry to hot and humid and may include work outdoors. Indoor work within the manufacturing plant is required. This environment will be noisy and may contain stimuli such as flashing lights and strong odors.
