Position Summary

The Material Handler is responsible for operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and semi-truck/trailers to move materials safely and efficiently around the yard. Proper rigging and loading techniques will be learned.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Promote a strong quality culture throughout the company, maintaining Cooper Steel’s core priorities: Safety, Quality, Production.
• Load and unload delivery trucks using overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Read and understand load lists to calculate material size and length when loading.
• Understand units of measure and general mathematical equations.
• Operate equipment/machinery and perform other duties within the shop and yard.
• Transport materials using tractor-trailer trucks.
• Inspect tools and equipment daily before use and maintain them in good working order.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent. Prior experience in a similar role is preferred. A valid Class A CDL is also preferred.

Other Skills

Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, good judgment, multitasking ability, and teamwork skills. Physical requirements include squatting, bending, twisting, lifting (up to 75 lbs), climbing (up to 6 feet), and flexibility in hours, including overtime.

Work Environment

The role involves working mainly in yard settings with variable noise levels, use of PPE, and exposure to weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, and precipitation.
