Job summary

Southern Fabricators is seeking a dependable Material Handler to move, organize, and deliver materials across a busy manufacturing floor in Polkton, NC. The role requires safe operation of forklifts and cranes, accurate material tracking, and collaboration with production teams to keep operations flowing smoothly.

The position is full-time in our Polkton facility with competitive hourly pay and benefits including paid vacation and health coverage.

Qualifications

• Ability to read basic work orders, part numbers, labels, and material identification information.

Responsibilities

• Safely move raw materials, parts, components, and finished products throughout the manufacturing facility.
• Deliver materials to production work centers based on production needs and schedules.
• Load, unload, stage, and organize materials in designated storage and production areas.
• Operate forklifts and other approved material-handling equipment safely and efficiently.
• Verify materials, quantities, part numbers, and locations before moving or delivering material.

MATERIAL HANDLER

Salary Range: $18.00 To $24.00 Hourly

Now Hiring: Material Handler

Are you dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment? Southern Fabricators is looking for a Material Handler to support our production operations by safely moving, organizing, and delivering materials throughout the facility.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys staying active, working as part of a team, and helping keep production running efficiently. The Material Handler plays an important role in making sure employees have the correct materials, parts, and supplies where they need them and when they need them.

What You’ll Be Doing

Safely move raw materials, parts, components, and finished products throughout the manufacturing facility

Deliver materials to production work centers based on production needs and schedules

Load, unload, stage, and organize materials in designated storage and production areas

Operate forklifts and other approved material-handling equipment safely and efficiently

Operate overhead cranes as required after completing company training and certification

Assist with loading and unloading trucks, trailers, and incoming material shipments

Verify materials, quantities, part numbers, and locations before moving or delivering material

Maintain accurate material identification and help ensure materials are placed in the correct locations

Support production employees by keeping work centers supplied with the materials needed to complete jobs

Move completed parts and products to the appropriate next operation, staging area, or shipping location

Assist with organizing inventory and maintaining clean, orderly material storage areas

Identify damaged, incorrect, or questionable materials and report concerns to the appropriate supervisor

Perform routine inspections of forklifts and material-handling equipment before use

Follow established procedures for safely handling large, heavy, or irregularly shaped materials

Maintain clear aisles, work areas, and designated material locations

Follow all Southern Fabricators safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment

Communicate material shortages, incorrect materials, or production needs to supervisors and appropriate departments

Assist Production, Shipping, Receiving, and other departments with material movement as needed

Perform other duties as assigned based on production and business needs

What We’re Looking For

Previous material handling, warehouse, shipping/receiving, or manufacturing experience preferred

Forklift experience preferred; ability to complete Southern Fabricators forklift training and certification

Overhead crane experience is a plus; willingness and ability to complete required crane training

Ability to safely handle and move materials in an active manufacturing environment

Ability to read basic work orders, part numbers, labels, and material identification information

Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure materials are delivered to the correct location

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic

Strong safety awareness and willingness to follow established procedures

Ability to work independently while also supporting a team environment

Good communication and organizational skills

Ability to prioritize tasks as production needs change throughout the shift

Comfortable working around welding, fabrication equipment, forklifts, cranes, and other manufacturing operations

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift

Ability to regularly bend, reach, push, pull, and perform other physical activities required for material handling

Ability to lift and carry materials within company-established lifting requirements

Ability to safely climb on and off forklifts and other approved material-handling equipment

Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include noise, heat, moving equipment, and changing temperatures

Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment
