Walpole Outdoors in Pittsfield, ME is seeking a Material Handler to move, store, and organize materials daily across the facility and yard, ensuring safety and efficient inventory flow. The role requires forklift operation and close attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

You will coordinate stock movement with multiple departments, support shipping/receiving, and serve as a back-up shuttle driver when needed, contributing to reliable operations and team success.

Qualifications

• Certified Forklift Operator with certification for each forklift type.
• Minimum 3 years of material handling experience.
• Ability to work with a team and adapt to a changing environment.
• Strong attention to safety, detail, and organization.
• Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.
• Warehousing, material organization, or logistics experience preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with a team and adapt to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklifts to load and unload trailers and organize the facility and yard.
• Perform daily equipment safety checks and weekly inspections; report discrepancies.
• Assist in coordinating stock movement across departments and branches.
• Maintain knowledge of in-stock catalog merchandise locations and move materials as needed.
• Support order picking, packaging, shipping, and receiving activities.
• Complete paperwork related to shipping, receiving, inventory movements and material receipts.
• Serve as back-up shuttle truck driver to ensure continuity when needed.
• Follow all safety guidelines, policies, and PPE requirements.

About the Role

The Material Handler is responsible for the day-to-day movement, storage, and organization of materials throughout the facility and yard. The Material Handler coordinates material needs across departments and requires flexibility to adapt to changing operational priorities. The Material Handler plays a key role in maintaining safety, efficiency, and inventory flow.

Requirements

Duties/Responsibilities

• Operate forklifts to load and unload trailers and trucks, dispose of debris, and organize the facility and yard
• Perform daily equipment safety checks and complete weekly safety inspections; promptly report any discrepancies
• Assist in coordinating the movement of stock, including branch loads
• Maintain strong product knowledge, including familiarity with the location of all in-stock catalog merchandise and the ability to move materials as needed
• Support order picking, packaging, shipping, and receiving activities
• Accurately complete all required paperwork related to shipping, receiving, inventory movements, and material receipt transactions
• Serve as a back-up driver for the shuttle truck to ensure operational continuity when needed
• Consistently follow all company safety guidelines, policies, and procedures

Skills and Qualifications

• Certified Forklift Operator, (specific certification for each type of forklift to be operated)
• Minimum of 3 years of material handling experience or experience in a related field
• Ability to work with a team and be adaptable to a changing environment

• Reliable transportation and consistent attendance

Physical & Work Environment

• Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing and warehouse environment
• Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. and push/pull up to 75 lbs
• Ability to operate a forklift and wear required PPE, including safety footwear and gloves
• Work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a moderate noise level
