Job summary

Trillium Construction in Decatur, AL is seeking a Material Handler for a full-time position in a busy fabrication shop. The role involves safely moving steel components, staging materials, and coordinating with crane and forklift operators to keep production flowing.

Pay is $20–$23 per hour with a schedule of 40–60 hours per week. Candidates must pass a 9-panel drug screen and background check; OSHA 10 certification and proper PPE (Type 2 Class C hard hat) are required.

Qualifications

• Experienced Material Handler with a strong background safely moving, staging, and organizing structural steel and fabricated assemblies in a fast-paced fabrication shop.
• Skilled in handling oversized and heavy materials in tight workspaces while maintaining safety, efficiency, and production flow.
• All candidates must be able to pass a 9-panel drug screen and background check.
• OSHA 10 and wear a Type 2 Class C Hard hat.

Responsibilities

• Safely move large structural steel components, beams, columns, trusses, and fabricated assemblies throughout the shop.
• Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment to transport heavy materials.
• Maneuver oversized loads through tight spaces while maintaining proper clearances and protecting finished products.
• Load and unload trucks using proper rigging and lifting techniques.
• Stage materials for fit-up, welding, machining, painting, and shipping according to production schedules.
• Read shop drawings, load lists, and production paperwork to identify and organize materials.
• Assist machine operators, welders, and fitters by ensuring materials are delivered accurately and on time.
• Inspect materials for damage and verify correct identification before movement.
• Maintain an organized yard and fabrication floor while following OSHA and company safety procedures.
• Perform routine inspections of forklifts, cranes, slings, chains, and rigging equipment.

• Overhead crane operation
• Forklift operation (large-capacity forklifts preferred)
• Rigging and signaling
• Handling oversized steel in confined work areas
• Loading and securing steel for shipment
• Blueprint and shop drawing interpretation
• Knowledge of steel shapes including wide flange beams, channels, angles, plate, tubing, and pipe
• Strong spatial awareness and the ability to work safely around active fabrication equipment
