Job Title: Material Handler – Heavy Duty Diesel Equipment (with Parts Department Support)
Location: Davenport Iowa

The Material Handler role is a dynamic dual-position responsible for supporting warehouse operations and assisting customers at the front parts counter for heavy-duty diesel off-highway equipment, heavy duty diesel trucks as well as generators. This role requires strong organizational skills, mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment parts, and excellent customer service to ensure efficient inventory management and customer satisfaction. This role includes receiving, storing, and distributing parts and materials while ensuring efficient operations. Additionally, the associate will assist the Parts Department with tasks such as pulling parts, processing orders, and supporting customer service needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Material Handler:

  • Receive, inspect, and store incoming shipments of heavy-duty diesel equipment parts and components.
  • Pick, pack, and prepare orders for shipping or customer pickup with accuracy.
  • Operate warehouse equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) safely and efficiently (certification preferred).
  • Maintain accurate inventory records using warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Organize and maintain a clean, safe warehouse environment in compliance with safety standards.
  • Conduct cycle counts and assist with periodic inventory audits.
  • Load and unload delivery trucks as needed.

Front Parts Counter:

  • Greet and assist customers (in-person, phone, email) with identifying and sourcing parts for off-highway heavy-duty diesel equipment.
  • Use parts catalogs (paper and digital) to look up and verify part numbers, compatibility, and pricing.
  • Provide technical guidance to customers regarding equipment parts, including specifications and applications.
  • Process sales transactions, including cash, credit, and account payments, using POS systems.
  • Coordinate with the warehouse team to retrieve parts for customer orders.
  • Handle returns, exchanges, and warranty claims according to company policies.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships to drive repeat business.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment is a plus.
  • 1-2 years of experience in warehouse operations, parts counter, or related roles.
  • Basic knowledge of heavy-duty diesel equipment parts and components (e.g., engines, hydraulics, transmissions).
  • Proficiency with inventory management systems, POS systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to lift to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
