UIC Government Services and the Bowhead Family of Companies seeks a reliable Material Handler to support the NSWCDD Engineering and Prototype Shop in Dahlgren, VA. The role offers SCA pay at $17.76/hour plus $5.09/hour health and welfare.

The package includes 33 paid days off per year, paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, boot allowance, tuition/training assistance, safety glasses, and 401(k) matching. A Secret security clearance is required where applicable.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must have a high school diploma.
• Must have at least one year of material handling experience.
• Prior manufacturing or fabrication experience preferred.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Experience reading blueprints.
• Able to communicate effectively at all levels.
• Must lift up to 75 pounds and stand/walk for prolonged periods.
• U.S. citizenship or ability to obtain Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Receive and unload materials from delivery trucks.
• Organize and stage raw materials in designated areas.
• Cut materials to specified lengths using a band saw.
• Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to move materials.
• Use dial calipers and tape measures to verify dimensions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Overview

Material Handler (EPFAB-2026-26095):

Bowhead is seeking a reliable and motivated Material Handler to support the Engineering and Prototype Shop at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD).

Bowhead offers

• SCA Material Handler pay at $17.76 per hour, plus $5.09 per hour for Health and Welfare
• A total of 33 paid days off per year. (Described below)
• Paid vacation accrued up to 15 days a year.
• Paid sick leave accrued up to 7 days a year.
• Paid holidays 11 per year.
• Up to $175 for safety boots every two years.
• Up to $5,250 for college tuition per year.
• Up to $5,250 for training per year.
• Prescription safety glasses are provided yearly.
• 401K matched up to 3%.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience working with manufactured materials in a fast‑paced shop environment.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

• Receiving and unloading materials from delivery trucks.
• Organizing and staging raw materials in designated areas.
• Cutting materials to specified lengths using a band saw, as directed.
• Safely operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to move materials throughout the shop.
• Using standard measuring tools, including dial calipers and tape measures, to verify dimensions.
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must have a high school diploma.
• Must have at least one (1) year of experience with material handling operations.
• Prior experience in a manufacturing or fabrication setting is preferred.
• Basic level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints.
• Capable of using standard measuring tools such as dial calipers and tape measures.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, customers, and management, and respond to instructions/assignments.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
• Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, and be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically.
• SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. U.S. citizenship is a requirement for a Secret clearance at this location. Bowhead will assist in obtaining a clearance upon hire, unless the candidate already possesses one.

Target salary is $17.76/hour commensurate with experience
