Job summary

Goodwill Industries Central Michigan (GICMH) is seeking a dependable Material Handler to load and unload trucks, transfer donations to store-ready merchandise, and carry out paperwork for daily operations in our Charlotte, MI facility.

Responsibilities include following safety rules, maintaining clean work areas, and moving items with pallet jacks or forklift operations as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Ability to bend, reach and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Ability to obtain valid forklift license.
• Able to move and organize merchandise using pallet jack and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Continually load or unload trucks for daily store runs.
• Follow all weighing procedures.
• Transfer seasonal merchandise and salvage merchandise.
• Transfer carts and Gaylords to the appropriate holding area within the plant.
• Fill out appropriate paperwork as required.
• Maintain a safe and orderly work environment.
• Follow safety procedures and report injuries and safety hazards.
• Maintain good housekeeping including sweeping and cleaning work area at end of shift.
• Develop and maintain skills to adjust to increased level of truck runs and incoming merchandise.
• Ability to work productively without close supervision.
• Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with all employees, participants, customers and consumers.

Purpose or General Objective:

• Continually load or unload trucks for daily store runs
• Correctly follow all weighing procedures
• Transfer seasonal merchandise and salvage merchandise
• Transfer carts and Gaylords to the appropriate holding area within the plant
• Fill out appropriate paperwork as required
• Maintain a safe and orderly work environment
• Follow safety procedures and report injuries and safety hazards
• Maintain good housekeeping skills including sweeping and cleaning work area at the end of shift

Additional Duties:

• Other duties as assigned by the Charlotte Plant Supervisor, Transportation Supervisor, Operations Manager, Retail Director or Vice President of Retail and Donated Goods.

Requirements

Physical Requirements:

• Have the ability to bend, reach and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Have the ability to carry, push, pull, otherwise move, and organize merchandise on a regular basis. May involve use of a pallet jack.
• Ability to obtain valid forklift license.

Education Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred

Summary

We are searching for someone dependable to join our team. As a Material Handler you will assist in transferring donations from the community that we sell in our retail stores to help people in that community and others in Central Michigan get work experience, job training, and other services.

We collect everything from furniture to clothing so you will be handling a wide variety of items every day, big and small, and need to be able to move the donations and sort them throughout a work day.
