Job summary

Ohio Gratings, Inc. in Canton, OH is seeking a material handler to support production flow. You will receive, inspect, unload shipments, and maintain stock to keep work centers fueled and operations smooth.

You will operate tow motors and hoists, manage ERP-based inventory, and uphold safety and quality standards while collaborating with a team on a fast-paced production floor.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to safely demonstrate material handling with tow motor and overhead crane.
  • Read metric and standard tape measures; perform basic arithmetic without a calculator.
  • Written and verbal communication skills; driven team player who learns and grows.
  • One or more years of material handling experience with steel or aluminum manufac­turer is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Keep materials moving by receiving, inspecting, and unloading incoming shipments with accuracy.
  • Track and manage inventory through ERP systems to ensure real-time accuracy.
  • Maintain a well-organized storage area for raw materials and finished goods.
  • Stage materials to keep production lines running efficiently.
  • Proactively replenish stock and support cycle counts.
  • Operate lift trucks and crane hoists to safely transport materials.
  • Maintain a clean workspace and properly handle scrap.
  • Read schedules, plan ahead, and support smooth production flow.
  • Follow safety and quality standards while collaborating effectively with the team.
  • Report issues quickl and take on additional responsibilities as needed.

Description

Be the backbone of production flow by managing incoming and outgoing materials-from receiving and inspection to storage and staging. In this fast-paced role, you'll keep raw material areas organized and ensure work centers are fully supplied, all while working independently, safely, and with precision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND PROFICIENCIES: A High School diploma or equivalent is required. The candidate must have the ability to safely demonstrate material handling with tow motor and overhead crane (Jib crane and Gantry crane experience is a plus). The candidate must also be able to read and understand both metric and standard tape measures; add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide by 10s and 100s without the use of a calculator. Write short notes or memos; possess both written and verbal communication skills. Must be a driven team player who takes the initiative to learn and grow; takes pride in group dynamics and motivating others.

Candidates with one or more years' of prior material handling experience with a steel or aluminum manufacturer are preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is encountered with repetitive movement tasks, which requires the employee to stand, walk, stoop, bend, reach, grasp, push and pull grating material of various size and weights for long periods of time. Must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds, using proper lifting techniques, help from another employee or other available resources such as lifting or moving equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the essential duties of this job the employee is regularly working on the production floor. The work environment requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Exposure to noise, dust, heat and cold on a regular basis. Exposure to machine and tool hazards requiring care and attention to safety rules and standards.
