Job summary

Scotts Miracle-Gro is hiring a Material Handler for our Linden, CA facility. This hourly role follows a pay progression starting at $20.70 per hour and is paid weekly. You will help ensure materials flow through shakers and mixers, maintain a clean work area, and assist with basic equipment housekeeping.

The position requires lifting at least 50 lbs, ability to work nights/weekends, and willingness to work in varying weather conditions across shift schedules.

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces and lifting at least 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant, yard, or work site, performing any combination of duties.
• Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
• Opens containers using hand tools.
• Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
• Loads materials into vehicles and secures with straps to prevent shifting during transit.
• Conveys materials to or from storage or work sites using hand truck or dolly.
• Secures lifting attachments and signals crane operators to move loads to destination.
• Lifts heavy objects by hand or hoist and cleans work area to assist operators.
• Assembles crates for products using hand tools and precut lumber.

This hourly role follows the Scotts/Hawthorne step pay progression scale and typically starts at $20.70 per hour and is paid weekly. We are looking for a Material Handler who will join our Scotts Miracle Gro team in Linden, CA! The Material Handler works in our Scotts manufacturing facilities. The person in the Material Handler position is responsible for ensuring organic or chemical materials flow through the shakers and mixers. They may perform housekeeping to insure that material does not accumulate, remove scrap material, and re-stack inventory. They will maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area.

What you’ll do in this role:

• Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant, yard, or work site, performing any combination of following duties:
• Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
• Opens containers, using steel cutters, crowbar, claw hammer, or other hand tools.
• Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
• Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit, using hand tools.
• Conveys materials to or from storage or work sites to designated area, using hand truck, electric dolly, wheelbarrow, or other device.
• Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination, using hand-operated crane or hoist, or signals crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination.
• Lifts heavy objects by hand or using power hoist, and cleans work area, machines, and equipment, using broom, rags, and cleaning compounds, to assist machine operators.
• Makes simple adjustments or repairs, such as realigning belts or replacing rollers, using hand tools.
• Assembles crates to contain products, such as machines or vehicles, using hand tools and precut lumber.

What you’ll need to be successful:

• Willing and able to work any shift schedule, including nights and weekends (shift differential and overtime available) and in any weather conditions
• Ability to get your hands dirty in a dusty environment
• Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including: standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces and lifting at least 50 lbs.
• Physical ability to climb in and out of equipment and sit for extended periods of time
• Able to perform all job functions safely
• Coaching and good attitude
